Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I really think DGB is a McAsey style bust. I would rather a pick in the 20s tbh

Agree. Also gun KPD's usually come from later in the draft. Weitering the main exception. Having one go so high is abnormal and could even be thought of as a red flag with how that draft crop was being rated. DGB was drafted in the covid-interrupted year, so the exposed form was not there to make proper judgements.

The 2020 draft looks pretty ordinary overall to be honest. The KPF's haven't blown me away. While JUH, Thilthorpe and McDonald have shown some promise, for top 4 picks you might want to see more. Amiss is younger and looks way better for example. Treacy from the rookie draft was the only KPF drafted (ignoring a few ruck/forward stringbeans) outside the top 4.

So there was a very small talent pool for tall forwards. Whoever DGB was up against most weeks would not have been very good. Plus there were hardly any other young KPD's drafted (really just Reid and Allison who look like busts), so the peer level to compare him against was also poor. Minimal games as well. All up a perfect storm to inflate how good he looked.

I would think Henry is worth roughly what we paid for Jordan Clark which was 2 x 2nd rounds from memory? Clark was first round pick and in and out of team. Henry’s end of season form is probably better than Clark’s at Geelong. Whereas Clark probably had a better 3 years overall.

Point is we always pay full price when we're getting OOC players, but when our players are OOC we don't even try to haggle and the deal usually gets done in the first couple days.
Yeh I understand what your saying but in the end jackson is probably the only one OOC we have had to pay big for lately

Will the pick be in the 20’s? He has shown more at AFL level than McAsey and getting him home could help. He is contracted so might be too hard anyway
He's shown like absolutely nothing and has been kicked out of the backline where they prefer Frost and Blanck. I mean, it's not going to happen because Hawks probably rather take a punt he figures it out next year and contracted like you said but if DGB wasnt from WA nobody would bat an eyelid towards him on here

If Young is destined to play predominately midfield next year, do they just throw Chappy into his position in the backline, or do you look at bringing someone like a DGB in to fill the gap to play that intercepting defender role?

Maybe the role is shared with a B22 player and the club starts to blood Davies or Draper in that position with the odd games here and there?

It's also possible that it's still to early to be judging talls from that age group.

both players were were top end talent their draft year you don’t just lose that, tbh you can think whatever you want about sharp but it is pretty much a known fact his papers were stamped as soon as the trade didn’t go thought. (Have a mate at the suns) DGB is more of a risk but think it’s no bigger risk then going to the draft with a pick in the 30’s that they’d get back for Henry

This exactly! As good a shot as any pick we’re going to have.
Money Ball plays with big potential in areas we need to strengthen.

He has a choice, he can go to the PSD and get picked up by North/Eagles or he can go to the Dogs. Isn't it time we be ruthless? He doesn't deserve any special treatment. I don't want to bend over backwards for a pick in the 30s.
And I don't think he'd be too keen on ending up at North considering what happened with Cyril who he idolised.

Player always gets to where he wants. Clubs don’t like too go to hard these day as there is so much movement don’t want to burn clubs

Eagles having the number 1 pick in the PSD really is handy for us when it comes to Henry.
Would have to think them picking him up would be his absolute worst case scenario !
Does give us some bargaining power you’d hope

Won’t make a difference unfortunately freo won’t let him walk for nothing

Main board chatter has Esava Ratugolea (if that’s spelt right!) going from Cats to Hawks.
If so that’s another marking defender along with Sicily that DGB would be behind.
If they are chasing Henry, DGB could be handy steak knives

Yep and noway Henry is going to Methcoast. He is, if rumours are correct, wanting to go to the big lights of Melbourne.
Colon Young will get a deal done with a Melbourne based club.

Yes, of course. But what does Hawthorn being firmly in the race for both McKay (3-horse race) and Ratugolea (favourite in 2-horse race) tell you? They don't rate DGB as a defender after having him under their noses for 3 years.

theyve put DGB up forward lately and i expect thats where hell stay, hawks board seemed fairly happy with his performances up there and they do lack KPFs outside of lewis who misses half a year anyway

Overall it is worse for us because they pick just before we do in both the second and third round, so they likely take a player we'd like.

Yes we should use the PSD threat against Henry. We will get a pick in the low to mid 30s for him so we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Dogs are the best club for us and if they are happy to trade for Henry, don't give him the choice. He can go to either North/Weags or Dogs. Henry has burnt his bridges so not like we need to keep the relationship with him. Also it will **** over Uncle Collin.

I understand the threat of PSD BUT a pick in the 30s can get you someone like a Tom Emmett or Frederick or Switta or Shultz or Cox or Ryan or… should I go on?

There’s AFL quality guys throughout the draft.

The threat is usually never an issue and unless Henry has done things wrong it won’t even be in discussions.

Just take the pick and back ourselves to grab something of use.
