Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

does it? Let’s say Darcy is leaning towards going?

he’s in contract this year and Norf have a priority pick incoming and possible access to a NGA top 10 player.

North get Reid, Darcy for pick 3 and 16 and their academy player

we get 3 and 16. Take Watson Edwards and Someone like Shoenmaker.

winner winner
We’re already inexperienced. Don’t see any reason why we need to keep throwing out experience and replacing it with new shiny toys.

Also 3 and 16 is way under for Darcy in contract. Pick 2 and 3 if they want him that bad.

If they have #2, #3, #16 and a future 1st offer them our future second and Darcy for #2, #16 and future first.

But I think we just sign Sean Darcy to an extension.

Even if Hamish Brayshaw seems adamant that Sean will move on.

We would want the pick right before West Coast that they trade to get pick #1.

So it goes North, Freo, WC. And we pick Curtin instead.

look North will finish bottom two again next year. Theyre not giving two years of firsts for Darcy

not saying we should, but if Darcy wants out we take it now, not next year when North may not have a PP.
and we could replace him with our own academy kid

We would get that pick off them next season forcing the trade matching the free agency deal anyway, plus if we knock on the top four or make a prelim in 2024 then Darcy leaving would be a much harder prospect - it's amazing what the taste of success just around the corner can achieve.

I am firmly in the do not trade Sean Darcy camp, I want to retain him for the rest of his career - but if they are going to offer him $1,500,000 a year to leave then he has to take that - and they have to pay all the draft picks in the world.

We then need to buy a player with their picks, not a draftee, a ready to go now player.

100%, Darcy leaving is not good IMO and I'm not sure what it says about the culture of the club if he did. I dont want him to leave, however, he does need to sign an extension now IMO because we are going to be 50 times better off doing it this season rather than next

I know we have positive sounds from some around Darcy, but I am uncomfortable that the media at large doesn't think his extension is a formality. We've seen this movie enough times to be at least a little nervous.

They all see Jackson as a ruckman who plays forward, none of them will see it coming when he plays midfield and it will be a revelation for the entire footy media wing - but every coaching team has dreamed of it.

They see it like we traded in Sam Taylor - one of Pearce or Cox has to go, Cox is the free agent next year - so Cox is leaving.

Possibly, but there is smoke and we can't tell why.

You lot complain when we give guys two year deals when they’re not part of our b22 but also complain when we don’t give guys deals which aren’t our b22 and use it to blame the club when they eventually leave.

Second year player is tearing it up at WAFL level and we give him a normal two year extension? Poor list management apparently.

But a six year player dropped from our team after playing 40 games over 5 seasons where he’s never been consistently b22 and is very injury prone and has not yet proven himself should have been signed to a 3 year deal straight away and it’s our fault he left because we didn’t sign him early enough. Makes sense.
True. Lock them in cheap if they show something is better

Interesting discrepancy between kicking efficiency % and threat rating for Luke Ryan.

This is why kicking efficiency % is such a blunt measuring tool for how someone disposes of the ball.

All of our guys. Young too surprisingly. If he’s negative threat rating the kicks should be higher %.

Brayshaw isn’t good. Rozee isn’t good, which is a massive surprise to me.

Compare to Dawson, Walters etc

Agree 100 percent, I would be hoping that Freo are putting the best offer they can in front of Darcy right now and hopefully get a clearer picture of his thinking over the next 6 weeks.

It's basically a stat for score involvements, so forwards will be higher on the list - but Tyler Brockman was of most interest to me because to my eye and my little stat squishing spreadsheet he was one of the highest impact players on the ground per possession, so I want him involved more.

Similar to Walters, very high reward for the team when he has the ball in hand.

Quite a lot of our mids will see a massive jump in that stat if we play one of our key forwards high up the ground taking a mark as far more of their kicks will result in an inside fifty another kick or two down the line. Essendon particularly were playing their key talls high up to try and move the ball but it meant they weren't inside fifty to make use of it as much, so Merrett being so high up makes a lot of sense to me.

we also saw Pavlich year after year after year. We haven't seen any smoke from anyone in the know. Just mouth farts from Hackdorn through Sumich.
