Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Would free up a list spot but Tabs has the trade value of a pack of salt and vinegar chips. Also, if Hammer is good depth for the backline, isn't Tabs decent depth for the forward line?

Retaining Hamling means we have the added luxury of throwing Cox forward (lol) occasionally.

I wouldn't be adverse to keeping Tabs given his cult hero status and the fact that he is depth, just that we should factor in the possibility he might be squeezed out.

Why do you want to get rid of Tabs? He's been over taken but he's still contracted backup who we can sit in the two's but provide AFL output with injury or drop of form.

Otherwise we end up needing to recruiting another Corbet type who probably won't be very good and if injury occurs on the road to finals, it could be very costly.

I didn't say I wanted to get rid of him, just that his footballing mortality might have been made more apparent to him this season.

If an offer to play elsewhere for more guaranteed gametime comes across his desk, he'd have to consider it.

You’d argue that despite Hamling sitting out so long he’s actually more durable.

He’s had one very bad injury which took him years to recover from.

He's contracted, we can keep him if we want. We're the only ones squeezing him out, which we would be stupid to with the age of our tall forwards.

If we do keep Hammer though, that means we will only lose Henry, Wilson, Colyer and Benning this off season.
It doesn't leave us with a whole lot of options in either the trade period or draft. My understanding is we will only be able to get 4 in through both? If we get in Sharp, that only leaves 3.....

Without being too cynical, without any actual evidence of him playing in the firsts, all this means is that he has the ability take over Tommy Sheridan's mantle for training the house down.

As someone else said previously, Sharp actually played pretty well in his 2nd year in AFL (a couple of 30+ possession) games and averaged 18 possessions in 9 games, but since then he had been banished to the VFL where despite dominating (including a couple of 39/40 possession games) he hasn’t got a look in. He has had some mild injury issues which have come at the wrong time but I think Gold Coast just put a line through him this year knowing that he wanted out….given if not for our F…up in the trade period he would be wearing purple already

The Sharp 2021 vs Henry 2023 comparison is virtually a wash statistically.

GC said they wanted something better than a future third that we offered? Better than that, we only had pick 33 last year (we took Davies who looks to be a good future KPD) and this years pick 21. What would you have given them in a non F...up scenario - lose Davies or pick 21 this year?

Sharpy's numbers in 2022 didn't warrant anything higher than a third.

Gold Coast wanted a second round pick for Sharp

Gold Coast would now be lucky to get a fourth for Sharp so they royally f##ked that up. We've got pick 58 this year. Would probably use that now.

Geez, I hope he doesn’t pick hawks. We will have zero leverage.
We do if North is interested. He doesn't get to the Hawks in the PSD.
Benning isn't still going, we didn't apply for an exemption for him
Benning is a reserves player.
Sharp is much more Corbett than Brodie
Sharp has underage pedigree that Corbett doesn't.
Wasn’t sharp criticised in his draft year for being a player that basically had no contested possession game at all?
That is my memory. His kicking has penetration but wasn't super accurate either.

They're getting 3 free first rounders this year. They do not value picks outside the first round. I doubt they care at all.

You watch - there might be a few junk picks involved, but it’ll end up pretty much a straight swap Henry for Sharp, where we pass on whatever we get for Henry directly to GC to get Sharp. Everyone will lose their shit saying Henry’s worth pick 25, but Sharp’s only worth pick 60… 😉😅

He has not nominated a preferred club although West Coast has been viewed as the frontrunner for him, however, Fremantle will also be interested in Brockman. There has been an expectation for some time that a trade request was looking likely from Brockman.
