Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Chris25 how are you seeing things shaking out now with our picks?

I wrote this on the drafts board last night…

I imagine we'll look local for starters - Riley Hardeman, Koen Sanchez, Kolstyn Tholstrup and Clay Hall would be ones around there.

But in terms of positional need, most will probably agree it's the wing spot we need to fix. It's looking as though Caleb Windsor is off the board, but I'd be all over Joel Freijah if he was available. I rate him much higher than the consensus and I think he best suits what we seem to want in the position in terms of size. Otherwise, I think there's a number of half backs we'd be interested in - with the view of Young becoming a full time mid and Chapman potentially being the long term winger. Riley Hardeman, James Leake, Arie Schoenmaker, Angus Hastie for example.

I do also rate Collard higher than most over on that board, so I’d look to get him before 40 as another name to add to the above.

We can dwell on past players leaving, the fact of the matter they are gone. Need to worry about our own current list. Yes, losing players sucks but it happens.
The question really is - Do we need any specific players to complement our side?
-Jack Billings is he a fit? I know he's 28..but gives us time while we have a young kid perform in WAFL rather than suffer at AFL level and be delisted straight away.
-Zac Fisher - Is there potential to snap him up?
What are we looking for in the draft? KPP?
Just spitting out ideas. JLo be feeling the heat next year that's for sure.

Already got one or two too many talls on our list imo.

WAFL reserves for Knobel is a bit different. The game starts with a ruck contest so he’s always involved.

Peel Reserves isn’t a great place for talented KPPs that aren’t rucks to develop imo. Having 4-5 talls in the Peel forward line isn’t great for development or Peel either.

I wonder if loaning out players might be the solution like soccer does.

Maybe, Bennings could have played for Claremont and Knobel with Perth.

I really hope Darcy doesn't request a trade. That would be up there with Lachie Neale levels of disappointment.

A throwback most of this board wouldn’t remember!

One of 14 new players drafted over 2008/2009 off season. He was one of two that never played at AFL level. Eight of those 14 played over 100 games of AFL footy.
Want an even bigger throwback???

Extremely low probability. He was at the peel game today supporting the players. I feel like he’s part of the culture / young players who drive standards.

Naahh...worse than that
I completely agree. The Sean Darcy/Luke Jackson ruck comb was our teams greatest strength this season and Luke also looked terrific when playing short bursts in midfield. If Sean left we would be losing our teams greatest asset which is having a terrific first ruck and another player who can dominate second rucks while playing well in multiple other positions.

Let’s not forget who wrote that article and it was all based on a tweet from Sam Edmund who hasn’t got a clue what’s happening outside Victoria.

Most likely jumped on FootyWire and looked at the OOC players and listed Darcy at 2 due to him being a Victorian player.

I agree with this, I actually don't get the whole Jackson has been better with Darcy out thing.
I think it looked best with both, and if Jackson can continue to develop his marking he'll add even more as he can take more contested marks down the line.
