Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Then you’d move those wings to other spots and get better overall? I’ll concede maybe Collingwood he wouldn’t be I their best 22, MAYBE. Who are you including in those other teams that are so good?
Yeah nah, I can also ask a counter question who he displaces as a genuinely better wingman which is what started this discussion
Acres is a best 22 wing in any side in the AFL
There’s obviously quite a few in the whole comp that he would displace but to claim that he’s a b22 in every team in the AFL is ridiculous imo. But then we got to

Not necessarily. If you’re getting an out and out superstar with a very good overall game then yeah sure, but superstar and Acres in my opinion don’t belong in the same sentence. Why move Josh Daicos elsewhere just to fit in Acres when Daicos is so far ahead of him it’s not funny. (Just an example)

Anyway, this might just go in circles, you rate him highly, I don’t and that’s cool 🤙

Just on this point. I don't think it's asinine (?) to expect a bit more from a top 10 pick.

He's been a bit average with no real standout moments that make you go "wow, he's gonna be a gun".
Sorry to Pussinbootz as I was in a bad mood and took it out on them.

To your point, Erasmus is not required to meet some arbitrary standard in his 2nd season set by casual fans in order to become a quality player.

Anybody compared to Andy for professionalism is someone I am giving a long rope to. Especially a big bodied mid.
It isn’t a tirade against him at all, I just think our future midfield brigade is stacked and we could put the capital to better use elsewhere.
Our midfield got battered most of the year, which is why we sucked so bad because our turnover game is rubbish. JoM was part of the battering so at best, we need more but most likely we need better. Ras has scope to improve a lot given his age and work ethic.

As per your point before, even if we draft someone this year at pick 15, they'll likely be at Peel at least as much as Ras anyway. We might not be stacked with A graders, but we have heaps of B graders and most 1st/2nd year draftees aren't getting bulk games.

If that's the case then we should aim for Sydney's 22 pick. They have a player in the academy that's projected at pick 21. We can give them the points to match.
What I posted on the Henry thread.
Gresham goes as band 3 free agent. St Kilda have pick 31 and will then get pick 32.

31,32 > Henry 52, 58 (values Henry at 25)

32, 40 > 22, F4 (Syd)

F4 (Syd) > Sharp

We roll with 21,22,31

What if Freo want Gresham and they just agree to pay the end of first round pick for him for Henry?

After 80km on the bike I am low on brain blood.

If Freo want Gresham for the link player then we can restructure a deal to two years and get St Kilda a better compensation pick to send onto us for Henry.

Why would the saints want 52 and 58? Useless to them unless they have a FS to match? Hawks were different and those picks had value to them to match bid for Will Mc cabe

You’re prob right (forget 58). If they give us those two picks (32, 33), I would have thought pick 52 would be handy for them. It would be their third selection(12, 51,52). Also they do have Next generation academy possible selection; Joshua Docking.

Essentially it is 32 plus 52 upgraded to 33.

Looking at the GWS vs St kilda game, I feel strongly we need to improve our speed of transition. We badly need 2 or 3 quick outside mids and forwards.

Hopefully Young can be replaced by a quicker line breaking defender and we can use Clark's run better. Would love to sign and quik Irishman and play him on the back flank.

We have quick players. We just don’t have quick decision makers in our back half.
We have looked fast many times when we pull the trigger.

But yes, some quick outside mids looks like a need.

I really think we have this in-house with plenty of kids with upside.
As a sample L Henry looked really slow, no awareness, etc, but with a few preseasons and games now looks a player.
Still has plenty to learn, fix, but you can see why he was rated now.
It’s the same with Johnson, Erasmus and why it’s so important to get them
to 50 games as possible.
The other draftees are just starting out but have shown glimpses.
The issue is getting the balance right between experience and youth.
With size and power also a consideration.

Chapman missing is a huge factor, Wagner starting to show why he was drafted.
The kicking out, slow decisive ball movement, is it players or coaching?
Whose idea is it to let Ryan play the half back role?

Last year I remember Jonathon Brown during our excellent run in first part of the year saying he talked to some GWS players and they said to him Freo is the toughest team to match in terms of speed.( we beat Gws a few rounds earlier).. so it is just game plan?

We definitely have speed, we just aren’t utilising it well this year. It was definitely a big feature in our first half to last year. I’m not sure why it’s changed so much.

It would be equally as strange to have a team stacked with speed, and yet the coach doesn't use it.
Let's just say that if opposition are playing a defender off the back specifically to block Frederick then we would start playing him higher up the field to get involved.

Frederick, Switta and Clark are the 3 genuine quick players. One or two more would be very handy.

Game plan tweaks and players playing with a bit more freedom would game.
