NO. CHANGES.

Sam Docherty will play his 150th game in the Navy Blue guernsey - the jumper he grew up wearing as a supporter - as Carlton looks to continue its strong run of form from recent months.

Last weekend’s sub, Ed Curnow is the sole omission from the Round 22 team: he has been named as one of four emergencies alongside Jordan Boyd (now available after suspension), Sam Durdin and Josh Honey. One of those four will be named as sub an hour before the bounce.

The Blues face off against the Dees fresh from a dominant Nic 'the Noodle' Newman masterclass vs Ross the Toss and his band of campaigners. The Blues are flying high, as are the Dees with both teams seen as two of the in form teams of the competition.

Carlton, inspired since the release of Herbatron's mid-season masterpiece highlighting how deep the Blues Bobblehead scandal ran through the club, has simply looked unstoppable.

They've made light work of cellar dwellers in Gold Coast, Hawthorn, West Coast, Fremantle and Collingwood and had a great win against Port Adelaide resulting in a thumping 50 point win before putting away the Saints on Sunday. Melbourne meanwhile have had a few comfortable wins versus North and Richmond and came out on top in a couple of finals like matches versus Brisbane and Adelaide.

Carlton will be looking to break Melbourne's 3 consecutive win streak vs Carlton with the last few clashes proving to be close encounters for the premiership fancies.

Some key match ups for the game:

  • Marc 'Strength' Pittonet vs Max Gawn
  • Paddy 'Brownlow still a chance' Dow vs Jack Viney
  • Nic 'Noodles' Newman vs Christian Petracca in his new role up forward.
  • Charles ' The King' Curnow vs Steven May
  • Jacob 'The Wall' Weitering vs Whoever Goodwin decides is playing forward this week.

On Carltons side they'll be worrying about how the Dees line up come Saturday night. With Harrison Petty likely out with what looks to be a bad injury and Bailey Fritsch still working his way back in the rehab group, the Dees are struggling with options up forward outside of Kosi Pickett who last year broke our hearts at the death in round 22. Petracca has shifted up forward too to provide another option but with the recent dominance of Carlton's midfield he may be forced to return to a prominent midfield role. Clayton Oliver is a chance to return which would be a huge boost for Melbourne and allow Petracca to stay a forward of centre player.

Max Gawn is back to All Australian form but with the tag team of Gawndy struggling together he is likely the lone hand vs Pittonet and Dekoning who will try to work him over throughout the game.

If Petracca is to stay up forward, responsibility will likely fall on one man...

Can Noodles contain the beast that is Lasagna Petracca? He is bigger, stronger and faster than any of the players Newman has matched up against in recent weeks and he is undoubtedly the key to a Melbourne victory.

From a Dees perspective they have the luxury of playing Carlton at a good time for them. With Mckay out for the next few weeks Lever and May will look to feast on the deep entries to Curnow as we saw with Wilkie and Battle last week. Containing Charles goes a long way to stopping Carlton but as St Kilda found out, the Blues reinvigorated play style is allowing multiple goal kickers to bob up for the Blues each week. Gawn will look to control the midfield battle through his superior ruck craft and make sure Cripps can't assert his strength around stoppages with the returns of Walsh and Cerra still in doubt.

However, unlike last year where the Dees were able to spread the field with superior wingers, Carlton has been able to bolster their outside run options during the off season and have found two really hard working battlers in Acres and Hollands. With a relatively even spread of outside players it likely comes back to who can get on top through the centre of the ground.

It should be a great Saturday night game with most of the football world tuning in to see if Carlton can continue their winning ways or whether the Dees can put a stop to the Carlton runaway train that's been gaining steam ever since the mid season bye.

Predictions? Blues by 15 with David Cuningham to remind the football world that he is one of the unluckiest campaigners to ever pull on a jumper and Collingwood fans to be whipping out every excuse in the book as to why the Blues suddenly look like the dominant team of the competition while their flag chances wane.

OUT: Pittonet, Docherty (rest), Owies (rest), Fogarty (rest)
IN: McKay, Walsh, Cerra, C.Durdin

If McKay and Cerra aren't right to go, maintain the outs and bring in Binns and Boyd.

If Kemp is out, keep Docherty in and drop him behind the ball.

I don't expect to win this, but either way it's a short week and we've got some dog-tired players.

Pitto, Doc, Owies, Fog won't be rested

McKay 50/50Walsh not ready, nor Durdin

Cerra yes, Boyd walks into the side

Is Walsh a sneaky chance? Boyd is available to bring some dash and respite…

With their injuries think Grundy might be a chance to return. Oliver hasn’t played in months so how match fit will he be? They’re hitting form at the right end of the season as well. Wish we had some options to lighten the load on Cripps, Doc and Charlie somewhat but we need them to give it all for one more game at least.

If he’s close to sneaky… hold him back

Considering this one a free hit. Not keen to rush anyone back who is less than 100%.

IN: Boyd, Cerra
OUT: Marchbank, Ed

Sub from Fog, Dow, George

We are fighting for our life with 3 tough games to come
No resting anybody …
They all get a rest after r24 if we make it
