That's extraordinary. It's widely reported that all clubs except WC and Essendon had CBA% increases in their player contracts. There isn't necessarily more cap available because of the cap increase

I know nothing about the Jack Martin stuff, that could be true for all I know.

I propose we wheel back to figuring out who’s having the medical done this weekI propose days off for any bored spud making up rumours instead of touching grass.
Martin ticks all the boxes if Carlton gave permission to head overI propose we wheel back to figuring out who’s having the medical done this week
Know someone who has connections to the club and they reckon we're about to offer a 1 year extension to Taberner.
Clueless if so.
The 2m spare is a red herring. Older players retire every year but younger players get older and better so need more money. Sturt, Voss, Reidy etc will all need a bit more and it adds up. We already have long term contracts for a lot of our stars but often a 7 year contract won't be the same over every year. It will increase and decrease as the planned money becomes available or if someone leaves they might pay them a bit more to bring it forward. The 2m is already planned on leaving and allowances have been made for what we are doing with it including recruiting. More than half is probably just to recruit kids and pay depth. We can afford pick 10 and Bolton's salary, if that's what your asking. And, there should be another 2m+ to spare in coming years. Of course, it's all guess work forme as salaries aren't public info. Basically, the AFLPA have negotiated a deal for TPP at the right time for buyers.
And this is why people are making up their own rumours insteadMartin ticks all the boxes if Carlton gave permission to head over

Wouldn't cost a draft pick we'd use IMO. Personally I think it's a waste of a list spot but there's little to lose (but also IMO very little to gain).Nah, there's substance to that.

Occam was indeed a person & even has a descendant in the AFL umpiring fraternityOccam was a place not a person.
They're losing battle who is a similar type to Ryan. Why, it's the one area of the ground they're covered? Makes no sense
This is not really correct. The person who supposedly came up with the razors' 'name' was William of Occam (Ockham). It's not like the term comes from the idea being one that was held in the Village of Ockham that then came to be accepted by everyone else. He'd long since left when he came up with it.Occam was a place not a person.
Starting price is NWM.They're losing battle who is a similar type to Ryan.
Just needs to be available when Koz is suspendedJack Martin is exactly the type of guy you have a swing at when you are loading up for a finals push.
Supremely skilled, will be dirt cheap, have zero expectations. If he can get going at the right time he is the finisher. he isn't coming into grind 23 games out and lift the squad into finals.

I get your point but as yet I've heard nothing reliable that Freo are scrambling to work out the TPP. I'll leave that to Collingwood. I do know we saved a bucket load when Hogan and Lobb left.
Neither of those two are heading anywhere. We would be idiots to trade Cox and Ryan.
Maybe in a year or two when the youngsters below develop.

This is a bit of a false economy. It's hard to say for sure given that rookie status isn't advertised anymore, but Freo have been running with the max number of rookies for a few years now. I imagine there are more than a couple of clubs that run the same — precisely because they are maximising the salary cap by maximising the number of non-TPP amounts allocated to rookies.A retiring player can reach agreement to be paid out less up front, but most clubs tend to move them to the rookie list to have $85k or so knocked off the TPP for that following season.
You don't need to hear anything. Do the maths yourself. I've done it with conservative estimates for our top 10-15 players, and you quickly realise that there is not much left for the rest.
Another exercise is to scan the other good teams and count how many players you would put in the "will be paid highly bracket" going forward. There's only so many you can have at the top end without making the bottom end too weak.
We're trying to fit in Darcy-Cox-Jackson-Brayshaw-Serong-Young-Bolton-Warner. It would be more than any club at the high end. Throw in Treacy who could command 800k+ easily on the open market. Let alone Pickett.
| Darcy | 800 |
| Jackson | 800 |
| Brayshaw | 800 |
| Serong | 800 |
