Not a criticism of any player but should we be wary of SA players? Without doing any research it feels like they fail or don’t live up to expectations more often than kids from other states..
Only when they play for us. Rankine and Dawson will be two of the best in the comp, if not already there.

Thats because both Adelaide clubs are terrible with development. SA players interstate go just fine. Matt Roberts, Tom Powell, NWM, Will Day, McCreery, Leek Aleer, Michael Frederick, Pickett, Sparrow, Chandler, Petty, Zac Bailey, Ballard. All of these guys are best 22 atm in their respective teams.

Must admit that Port and Crows both have the tendency to use late draft picks on local talent instead of interstate and those ones do go bust but there's a clear reason for it

I’m not sure that’s entirely true. I doubt they have any different success rate than wa and vic other than there’s fewer of them.

Tasmania is the one where they often don’t live up to expectations, tho a couple of recent kids might have bucked that trend.

Some nice prospects coming from SA this year that I like the look of. Obvious Dyson Sharp is the common name you hear but others to look out for:

Sam Cumming
Noah Roberts-Thomson
Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier
Matt LeRay
Jack Cook
Jevan Phillipou
Aidan Schubert

And I'm sure there'll be more to come as the year unfolds.

Both Ben Francou and Gill Wakelin have had good starts to their respective seasons. Wonder where Wakelin's head is at (hopefully picks us)

Used to teach Aidan Schubert at Trinity College. Great lad and always wanted to play footy. Big Power fan and comes from a great family. I'd be stoked if we landed him with a later pick

Putting on some good numbers. Very tall lad but quite skinny atm. Currently I view more in the mould of Marshall/Lukosius who aren't typically great in the air in terms of contesting marking. Has some nice forward craft though and works hard around the ground. Has been rucking a fair bit too so some very positive signs. Needs to work on his kicking action though.

I always thought the Cows were good at developing players but had a crap culture and struggled to keep them.

Nah they haven't been better than Port imo, Schoenberg, Gallucci, Berry, McAsey (for different reasons that you mentioned), Gollant, McHenry just on top of my head. Both clubs been hit and miss

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.

They got that 2017 team up and running and then a fair whack of players left.

If the Grand Final was played at Adelaide Oval, they may have nabbed that one.

Every team has duds that don't develop.

The most unfortunately thing is that the Cows have developed this iteration of their team very well. It's not perfect but it is looking pretty good and they seem to be bucking against current trends.

Fair enough, I just think both clubs have been average with development and relied a lot on natural development rather than via coaching.

Think we should look at Floyd Burmeister in the MSD too. Just put Marshall on LTI list and open up a spot. Next year there's a good chance we trade Soldo and Lord while delisting Finlayson. Burmeister can develop into that forward ruck raw. Was still so raw last year but surprised many that he wasn't drafted based on his ceiling.

We really need to stash a whole heap of guys to pick up for when Carr coaches as we have a fair amount of dead wood towards the back end of the list and not a lot of draft capital.

Any chance Port trades out 2027 1st rounder in anticipation for any NGA/Father-son prospects from that year to get back into this draft?

Zemes Holmes-Pilot, Tevita Rodan, Louis Salopek. Any chance of them wanting to come to Port?

I think the Rodan boys can qualify for NGA at Essendon. And they go to school in Essendon and play footy for an Essendon club.

Even considering the relatively weaker SANFL U18s competition, this was one of the best junior performance I've seen. Dougie slotted 6 majors of his own, set up a number of others for his teammates, took contested marks, laid tough bumps and tackles... what can't this kid do? There were several moments that I had to rewind to check that I did actually see what I thought I saw.

We are probably going to have to hope he does a JHF and comes home after his first year or 2. Will have to pay a kings ransom for him though if he turns out to be as good as projected.
