And Hetherton is another who apparently would have rated top 10 at the national draft combine for running vertical leap - seems to be a massive theme in our recruiting this year. Surely not a coincidence?!

The other theme is we're picking a lot of players with high ceilings who are a bit speculative. That could be said of Kyle, King, Hetherton and Chamberlain. To a lesser extent it applies to Phillipou too - except I think his floor is a fair bit higher than the rest of them provided he knuckles down and buys in to bloods culture. That leaves only Cootee as a proven product out of all our draft hand.

Since we're not rebuilding, I don't mind this strategy at all. If two of those players can turn out to be really good, then it doesn't matter if the rest are busts because our cupboard is not bare and we can go again.
100% we have taken a giant leap on giant leaps!!

Think we have drafted well, but there is still something to be said for footy IQ and we are imbalanced on athletic profile to footy IQ. Hence why Carmichael would have helped in this area.

I will trust in the club and the plan, the trade period and draft has been a success especially after todays Rookie draft. Two really good prospects and there is really good balance to the list for mine. Proven senior players, good depth and some exciting youngsters.

Roll on 2026! Think we are primed again!

I've been a bit sceptical about Keane as our list manager.

However, I'm happy with this year's trade and draft period. Our list definitely looks stronger with the moves that have been made and its now over to the coaches and players to make it happen. Keane and co have done their bit.
Im just thankful that we didn't bring in a (new) skinny flanker this year, yes we did rookie Lloyd but I think you get the point.

Like you said i also get the impression that the players we've brought in all bring some physicality and are well versed in tackling. On top of their xfactor appeal

We have gone for 6 players with huge potential.

Feels like the list managers across the board have gone into this draft hoping that like 1/3 of their picks can be the huge huge upside rather than the normal high floor picks.

So yes many of the picks will fail but if King or Pou or Kyle can hit than its mega.

The word that popped into my mind was "determined". I'm extremely excited about the group we've brought in. We've bet on success rather than avoiding failure.

For all those here who are bemoaning the fact that we passed on Carmichael I think it's worthy to consider the position the club was in at the time that bid came in.
We had picks 35, 42, 51 and 63 which totaled 597 points. Accepting the bid would have cost us 649. Hence we would automatically be starting next years draft with a deficit of 52 points. More importantly, our next pick would have been in the sixties.
As a result, they believed that a bid would come for King at a time where we would have to either go further into deficit or simply pass altogether. Passing being the most likely option. Granted, it didn't turn out that way with King, but that would have been the thought process at the time.
We would have walked away from draft night most probably with Kyle, Carmichael and a type of player taken the following day in the rookie draft.
Instead, we walked away with Kyle, Phillipou, Cootee and (unexpectedly) King. I feel far happier with the secondary outcome.

Ditto. Getting Philippou and Cootee is sheer bonus. It was absolutely the right call. Carmichael still gets his AFL career, just not with us. Academy job done ✅

And with a bit of luck, Carmichael gets homesick in a couple of years.
