Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
But you didn't grow(sorry)

100% we have taken a giant leap on giant leaps!!And Hetherton is another who apparently would have rated top 10 at the national draft combine for running vertical leap - seems to be a massive theme in our recruiting this year. Surely not a coincidence?!
The other theme is we're picking a lot of players with high ceilings who are a bit speculative. That could be said of Kyle, King, Hetherton and Chamberlain. To a lesser extent it applies to Phillipou too - except I think his floor is a fair bit higher than the rest of them provided he knuckles down and buys in to bloods culture. That leaves only Cootee as a proven product out of all our draft hand.
Since we're not rebuilding, I don't mind this strategy at all. If two of those players can turn out to be really good, then it doesn't matter if the rest are busts because our cupboard is not bare and we can go again.
Tough deal.Nope, it's the main reason I stopped playing footy at 16
I did the fractures in my back after a growth spurt at 14, then got stuck from there.

Probably - they are essentially on a restricted list.Pretty sure he is still academy tied next year. I wonder if there is some strategy in taking Hetherton this year, as he would have been free to all next year. Can't help but think that call was very line-ball

Yes.Are cat Bs allowed to play AFL?
Im just thankful that we didn't bring in a (new) skinny flanker this year, yes we did rookie Lloyd but I think you get the point.I've been a bit sceptical about Keane as our list manager.
However, I'm happy with this year's trade and draft period. Our list definitely looks stronger with the moves that have been made and its now over to the coaches and players to make it happen. Keane and co have done their bit.
Like you said i also get the impression that the players we've brought in all bring some physicality and are well versed in tackling. On top of their xfactor appealIm just thankful that we didn't bring in a (new) skinny flanker this year, yes we did rookie Lloyd but I think you get the point.
We have gone for 6 players with huge potential.Like you said i also get the impression that the players we've brought all bring sone phisicality and are well versed in tackilng. On top of their xfactir appeal
The word that popped into my mind was "determined". I'm extremely excited about the group we've brought in. We've bet on success rather than avoiding failure.Like you said i also get the impression that the players we've brought all bring sone phisicality and are well versed in tackilng. On top of their xfactir appeal
You forgot Blakey.Interesting side note to the draft is that we've increased the number of players from NSW from 11 last year, to 14.

Who would he play SOO for?Born in Melbourne
Lived in Sydney since he was 5/6 and played the entirety of his junior football in Sydney.Born in Melbourne
Would play for NSW/Allies due to playing his footy in NSW. But I'm guessing Adnico was only going off NSW born.Who would he play SOO for?
In every meaningful footy sense he counts as a NSW player.
CorrectWould play for NSW/Allies due to playing his footy in NSW. But I'm guessing Adnico was only going off NSW born.
If your criterion is "born in" rather than drafted from, you can remove Hetherton.Correct
Was born in Victoria

Yep. But State of Origin has never been about where you are born but where you learnt to play

Ditto. Getting Philippou and Cootee is sheer bonus. It was absolutely the right call. Carmichael still gets his AFL career, just not with us. Academy job doneFor all those here who are bemoaning the fact that we passed on Carmichael I think it's worthy to consider the position the club was in at the time that bid came in.
We had picks 35, 42, 51 and 63 which totaled 597 points. Accepting the bid would have cost us 649. Hence we would automatically be starting next years draft with a deficit of 52 points. More importantly, our next pick would have been in the sixties.
As a result, they believed that a bid would come for King at a time where we would have to either go further into deficit or simply pass altogether. Passing being the most likely option.
We would have walked away from draft night most probably with Kyle, Carmichael and a type of player taken the following day in the rookie draft.
Instead, we walked away with Kyle, Phillipou, Cootee and (unexpectedly) King. I feel far happier with the secondary outcome.

And with a bit of luck, Carmichael gets homesick in a couple of years.Ditto. Getting Philippou and Cootee is sheer bonus. It was absolutely the right call. Carmichael still gets his AFL career, just not with us. Academy job done![]()
