I thought the opposite — did we really learn anything apart from that we pinpointed Thredgold and Phillipou as the two sliders heading into night 2?
Other than that, we learnt that they would have matched on Kyle from 10 onwards.

They were surprised that King was listed as a key forward. Or seemed to be.

You can pause the video early and they show our rankings of the players. Not their names, but their positions. You can draw your own conclusions about who each player is, but CDT at 10 is interesting.

There were other little things. Would have been nice to hear their discussion about Carmichael, but I still thought it was a good content. Way more than we usually get.

unreal content. Surprised how candid some of it is.

Keane really making it his own. Pav "you know what you're doing" nice to hear. Cox trying to ring everyone straight away. ✅ We would have taken Thredgold which would have been a good call but never got close. Not at all sure there was anyone better for us before Philippou that we missed out on. Cody Curtin was available at our Cootee pick. 200cm. But possibly Hetherton a better get anyway and what's 2cm between friends. That competitive streak running through. 👍

Early on one of the people in the room whom I don't recognize said theyd done some digging on Max but they had heard nothing indicating a more relaxed view about having some prior pick/s before Max was bid on.
And then when they were locking in the Jevan bid the recruiter was summing up all the good feedback from the Sa squad about Jovan and Matthew Pavlich nodding approval

Pou will be a gun mate cannot believe we got him there and annoyed the Saints in the process double win

There has been about the same % as our former cost of living allowance
I might've also been elated that the dumb speculation on the daft thread was over

Yep we can move onto pre season after the Ashes of course

I feel really excited by this crop and the direction of the club and surely Cox has had a big say in this and i feel that this group might be the game changers we needed. I might be wrong , but even on here i for once can find a great positivity on here with what we've done .
Really looking forward to the season , so many new faces , sad for some that a couple of loved players are gone , but to go forward tough decisions needed to be made for once , the only one i disagreed with was Ramps not being retired.
Malceski should also have a better VFL team and that's so important
GO BLOODS
I agree mate!

I'm 95% sure that's John Giramondo. He, Keane and Ross Monaghan are the nucleus of our recruiting team these days, with Kinnear somewhere on the periphery. Other than that we have scouts around Australia and, of course, the Swans head honchos (Cox, Cameron, Pavlich).

When we matched the Kyle bid Keane said that we'll probably have to let Lachie go and we'll work around that (1:57), did pretty well in the end with two picks before King.

It was interesting, would've liked to have seen the room when Carmichael was bid on
Wouldn't be surprised if they knew exactly when the bid was coming and made the decision to pass on him before it even happened. Clearly prioritized Kyle and King ahead of him.

Cochrane vibes for me
Not for me. I think Carmichael will play plenty of senior footy and play it at least well, maybe better. That’s assuming a decent run with injury of course.

I had doubts last year over Cochrane’s AFL potential. I really hope he does make it, for his sake, but wasn’t especially disappointed when we passed. This year I was disappointed that we had to pass on Carmichael but understand why the points/bid positions meant we had to if we wanted to be confident we’d be able to get King.

Im just happy what we did and there will be more of this if the academies are allowed to grow

From today's Gettable, for next year's draft:

- The AFL has met with clubs on next year's likely bidding system. It'll likely involve clubs only being able to use 2 picks to match, whilst the 10% discount will 100% be abolished.

- They also may close the loophole that allows clubs to hold more picks than they have list spots on draft night.

Hallelujah and that is by far and away the fairest system. It’s fair for us too.

Punishing the Academies.

I dont know it felt like what they didnt want to risk is the possibility of a bid on Jevan or the other guy that went first on the second night. Obviously they didnt want to risk King and would have been one half of the reason for not matching Lachie but from the comments early in that video it sounded like they'd dug around and there seemed to be no intel on any early interest on King. At the point of the Carmichael bid both the King match but also a prior juicy selection before King swayed them just as much.
The fact that nobody else seemed to be interested in King raises a couple of red flags for me. Thankfully I can just think of him as a Pick 49 now and not some academy prodigy.

Plenty of good players are picked in the 40s and beyond. From the Academy we had Errol slip until the 30s, so it's not necessarily a big deal if other clubs let them through.
