List Mgmt. 2026 Draft and Trade Thread

I just look at the huge list of players we have up for renewal in ‘27 & suspect we can’t afford to get into a bidding war with Carlton for The Party.

I hope bedford is right.

On that note our OOC list:

Current priorities IMO:
1. McCartin
2. Sheldrick
3. Edwards

Warner is a weird one and would put him at rwo if there wasnt so much WA noise around him.

Grundy would offer another one or two year contract if he wantes to go around. If not then Ladhams would be in there.

He’s turning 27 & probably only has one big contract left.

I maintain my view - money talks. Especially for a player who has probably never been on big $

If the Swans offer enough, we’ll keep him. But what is “enough”? Sounds like it ain’t what we’ve offered to date.

No reason he won't do a Chad sign a 2-3 year one and he'd still have a big contract after we contend. I'd be surprised if he even remotely leaves. you can have Errol and co kicking it to you making you look good...or you can have Blake Acres kicking helicopters at your head.

He's already rejected the 2 year deal we offered him, and we've now offered him both a 4 and a 5 year contract.

So he won't be accepting a 2 year deal.

Fair enough, no problem with a 4 year one, 5 years would make me slighly nervous, but if it's a club option go for it.

Tend to agree, although I think Roberts & Jordon will be viewed as important too. As might King, if he starts to show promise.

The whole Chad circus will fire up again - and the Swans will want him to stay. But this time, I suspect that it'll be much more difficult to keep him. If precedent is anything to go by, we'd net a very substantial return.

I suspect the 5 year option was to give him security vs max pay per year.

I actually hope he signs the 5 year option.

Key forwards are getting less banged up than they used to as the game gets quicker.

Don't disagree mate, and whether I like it (trust me you know my thoughts on this so out of respect I won't clog the thread up again) or not the old 3 year deals are 5 year ones

We have a large list out of contract players in 2027 as the current CBA ends after next season. Expect a new CBA by the end of the season or early next season and another increase in the salary cap.

West Coast will definitely launch a raid not just on Chad, but I'd say Gus and Corey as well.

I hope Keane will have ducks in a row to make sure we can match their FA bid, and force the trade.

I still wonder if we trade Chad

Matching the bid is only valuable if WC finish mid table. If they are down the bottom matching just mean they get him via PSD with no compo.

We could even try to get him out as pre-agent to get max trade value. Looking into that 2027 class that is BRUTAL. We can’t keep them all.

Why would West Coast trade when they know he's a free agent next year?

Why would West Coast trade when they know he's a free agent next year?

And why would we? Look let me preface this by saying I’d still have taken the deal last time however now we have him contracted for next year and we are contending why are we going to consider it? That’s just silly.

Hope he stays but people have very short memories. When was the last season he was injury free? And I don't just mean minor injuries.

I don't disagree with you mate. I trust the club, but at the 4-5 years it's a fraction of a risk. Not sure I'd do it but i trust the club, whilst we are contending you take more risks.

Fair enough. Didn't realize but I think that is probably an outlier.

Has played every game this year too. He's a guy that will need rests.

Any players worth picking at over there?

I'd take Weitering for sure, hey Jagga is welcome here. They still have some talent, and they get a top 2 pick this year in Walker.

The Amartey situation is interesting and could impact Hayden McLean. If Amartey re-signs then I would say McLean may be traded as there is no way we can accommodate 4 talls on the forward line. You can bet other clubs are watching this with interest. McLean is a good player and too good to be in the Reserves in my opinion but he is down the pecking order behind Amartey, Curnow & McDonald. So if Amartey stays Mc goes. However if Amartey holds off what happens? If he doesn’t sign in the next few weeks I would say he is holding out for a big offer from the Blues ( or even another club) which we can’t match. So what does the club do? In the meantime McLean could be languishing in the Reserves and other clubs will come after him too. My view is if Joel does not commit or reject the latest offer in the next few weeks then he is not invested in the club? It could be a difficult situation for us. We could potentially lose both next season which could hurt as if McDonald or Curnow get injured we are going to be light on for height down forward unless we get someone in trade.
