Wonder if the merits of 1v1 go a bit unsung in the modern game. Yes, you'd need to concentrate, and there's less opportunity for fancy schmancy presses and so on that may yield turnovers, but when the alternative is ending up 8m from your man who takes a mark at half forward and then takes off in the direction of the goal, well, I wouldn't have any objections to such a tweak
This video is worth a watch from Jeff White (ex. Melbourne). Explains the styles and needs. Talks about St Kilda doing 1v1 and the need for intense coordination and hand offs.

He has a couple on north midfield during the season too.

Hardeman now permanent wing, Bull named DVC....certainly keeping the natives on their toes.

You can cut the tension with a knife...
Wait until they announce Robert Hansen Jr 3 year contract extension before a ball has been bounced, this place will go off.

Didn’t know if that was Georgie W or Matty Rowell with those shoulders. He is looking huge.
Cunners came to mind for me. Georgie playing a full season is my greatest hope for 2026, he will monster opponents.

All works in tandem with half forwards.

Cam mooney on Sen was saying half forwards and small forwards do the most running on the ground now to chop up space, defend and then create on transition.

Understandable why we’ve targeted a few more running types
True that, always amazed me that Ben Brown used to cover the most ground of any of our players!

Holy sh*t. I'm pretty sure I was chatting to Twinkletoes in the outer at that game (against GC?) A lifetime ago.

Or am I thinking of a later one...

They become a blur after awhile. I remember chatting on the grassy knoll of the outer but can’t remember the opponent. Then again, it was a biggish crowd so unlikely it was the GC game. It may have been the one where Matty Campbell ran laps all arvo.

A real opportunity for a meeting of high performance cultures with NMFC and the England cricket team in Noosa simultaneously
Brad Scott and Rhyce Shaw were doing Bazball before it was cool.

So it’s a 9.30am start today on the Sunny Coast? It’s going to be very hot! Already feels about 30 degrees at 730. My first day of Xmas holidays today so I’ll try head down and watch…do they ever move training forward to get out of the heat or the time is the time?

they would update the training page on the website, but can't recall a time they ever moved it cos it was too hot so you should be fine

Already training when I got here around 9ish. Warm ups, some run thrus and handball games.

Now into some full length circle work that was done at good pace. Now some running. Plenty of noise. Jy and Logue maybe the loudest. FOS with the Cole Palmer shirt on today…that seems to go to a different guy every time I’ve seen them train. FOS leading the shuttle runs…

Got a couple of umps here now so maybe a bit of match simulation about to happen possibly

Archer, Duursma, McKercher and Goater training away from the main group.

urqs, lmac, larkey, corr, brayden George in full training?
George and Spargo just left main group to work with Duursma and coaches.

Larkey, Lmac and Urquart all training. Haven’t seen Corr out there .

No game at this stage, umps still doing laps. But after some more drills they’ve headed off for a drink and team photo while setting up for what looks like some sort of shortened game.

Have a blue v orange game with field bought in about 20 metres on all sides. Not all that intensive as they want the midfield to get a kick into the forwards and then it’s game on…but some nice kicking skills on display from FOS in particular and some marks clunked by Trembath and Darling. Lynch in the middle coaching it and Clarko watching on.

Thus proving the more you get paid, the less you have to do.

More he wanted to have a look from up high on how it was looking imo…he’s been out there for most of the morning.

Into more fitness work now.

Umps back running laps again, so I’m hopeful we’ll get some sort of game to finish the session…maybe

All over. No real game but plenty of match sim stuff…I’ve watched a bit of training in the past and I do think the standard has upped a fair bit from the past few years which you’d expect.

They finished with a 10 or 12 minute run which looked like tough work from my seat in the shade :) Lmac the winner followed by Stephens and Logue…Dovaston up in the top finishers and worked really hard in all the running drills. Stephens having a chuck at the end showing how hard he worked…club cameras were out and about so there will be some media for those hanging out for it no doubt.
