AFL Player 46: Lachlan Blakiston - Re-signed for another year! - 10/9

Really important to have versatile depth like Blakiston on the list. Cheap backup ruck and KPD option who could further improve with time in an AFL system. If Goldstein retires or we move on from Laverde, there’s a clear spot for him.
He could probably fill in as a KPF as well if we were desperate. I know we have a lot of coverage already in that area, but Blakiston is versitile and agile for a big guy, and he's not a bad mark. He's like a swiss army knife.

And the good thing about keeping him for next year is we can free up multiple list spots (Goldy, Lav, etc) and just keep him on to cover all of them in a pinch.

Yeah, I would have him on the list over both of those.

Would like to see what he can do after a full pre season. Athletic freak, has showed a bit and should have a number of years as wear and tear will be low given his late league start. And I was going to post in jest what Kelvin said but may not be the craziest idea given his lateral movement, throw him in there sometimes and maybe will cause a bit of chaos for the opposition.

In all seriousness, I'd be happy to drop Blakiston and call Balders back. He showed more.

...or keep Blakiston as a depth ruck who could pinch hit kpd if necessary, should Goldy retire.
Baldwin has been injured again. No point doing that.

Can’t be on the list, simply not up to it. Not even close
Could say the same for a majority of them. Reality is, can't cut everyone, and with injury/retirements, if it doesn't cost a lot and isn't a long term risk, you'd be insane not to put a one year deal on the table

Disagree, @ 26 not going to get much better. Bring a kid in and develop

Has never done an AFL preseason, ideal age for a tall, will be happy to take a single year deal.

Basically a perfect stopgap for us if Draper goes. Can cover ruck while Bryan gets back without rushing him, and means not sending Visentini to the wolves every week if Bryan isn’t ready. Plus covers a KPD role given Hayes is coming back from an ACL and Reid’s body isn’t reliable.

I think he probably will get a contract but I think 1-2 other moves need to play out first with how tight our spots will be.

I am still unclear on whether he is worth another year, which is, to be honest, a bit of a fail.

Not enough of a sample size as a ruck and as a genuine, find a man, back shoulder, full back. Some of the jobs Laverde got throughout the back end of the year, should have gone to Blakiston. If only to prove he can’t do them.

Probably gone before our pick anyway, but likely concedes we won't draft CDT.
