Port's Tredrea has had radical surgery to repair his ankle.

here

Several years back a Cat half forward, I cannot recall his name sorry, suffered horrendous injuries to his ankle whilst playing. I further heard he has ongoing complications from the injury.

I wonder if he could now seek out this LARS type surgery for his ankle, and if it could do him any good or not?

Jason Snell is the player you're refering to and his injury would've been 10 or more years ago. [2001 he did his ankle]

His name was Jason Snell.

From memory he had to have his ankles fused to preserve his mobility quality of life etc, but this meant he did not have the required flexibility in them to continue playing football, so he had to retire.

Tredrea's injury is a ligament injury. If you are talking about Matthew Egan who had a foot bone injury the same as James Hird (not an ankle injury). So the procedure you are talking about would not have been used or applicable to Matty Egan

No, it was Jason Snell I was referring to.

Always a shame if these new style treatments could not be used by retired players, due to a technical hitch, if it was possible they could improve their quality of life.

Thanks guys.

Sadly Jason's injury was akin to a road trauma type accident. One of the worst incidents it's ever been my misfortune to witness.

It was sickening. You knew his career was in serious jeopardy as soon as you saw the replay.

I'll never forget watching Buddha consoling him while Snell waited to be stretchered off. You could see Hocking was severely distressed as well over the incident.
Snell was a bloody good player as well. Almost in the Chapman mould.
