General public (including me) love FS I doubt they ever get rid of it

If the need is to stop the 1st round going out of control then remove discount along with the pick value changes that have already been made

Also scrap compensation picks for free agents, that’s a real rort

So much agree on the compensation picks for F/A. No system where it’s better to LOSE a player than keep them is a good one. The ability to not have a certain contract on your books is the compensation that’s enough.

I mean I hate picking on North or WCE and boy I don’t blame them but on what planet are either MCKay/Allen worth top 3 picks! It’s insane.

Pick 11 is the earliest you should be getting for compensation. If you want more than that match the contract and force a trade

There should be no compensation for losing a UFA. Full stop. The very nature of that status should remove any doubt on that. The 'Compensation' is the cap space to buy someone else.

If someone is an RFA then as you say, match and force the trade if you want to extract aome value from their departure.

Remove the Compensation completely - I realise why it currently exists but it is ridiculous and dependant on a 'secret formula'. It has to go.

Protect the first round at all costs - and put limits in place on FS and Academy picks each season. If a club wants to retain a top 10 talent from their Academy they need to hold a top 10 pick, same goes for FS. This may require further layers to the bidding system but something closer to actual value must be paid and the first round cannot be 30 odd picks long.

There shouldn’t be compensation for F/A but at most end of first round as a small compromise

They will probably need to transition it out so that would be a good start.

...and yes I realise my club appears to be a good chance to benefit from the current set up but it really is ridiculous that failure (or in this case clear decision) not to retain a player sees such an impact on the draft and the other teams first selections.

Wasn't fair when it was Ben McKay, still isn't when its Oscar Allen.

You'd be surprised if they finally made the call next year, due to a power club like Carlton having a top asset.

Would be such a win for equality.

Essendon have a top FS prospect in 2027 apparently.

Just do it this year, bang

We have Dan Anable this year. Top 3 midfield prospect. So next year is better for us. I don’t think we have any top academy or fs on the horizon then.

Exactly, you don’t need anymore favours. You have to get him to tell everyone he’s a flight risk like all the vic metro kids do.

If Dylan Patterson is a top 10 prospect for this year, then Caylen Murray is a top 10 prospect for next year.

And Matthew Owen is a top 20 prospect.

I was really hoping we could get through the 2027 draft before any changes were brought in.

I hope this leads to undrafted players nominating a club and letting every other club know under no circumstances will they play for them.

Refuse to sign a contract.

Happens in other sports, might come to the AFL.

You mean like Bailey Smith telling non-victorian clubs that he would be a flight risk and that they shouldn't draft him?
