So strange that a kid who's father played AFL is NGA eligible at all.Richmond will bid as he was also eligible for their NGA.

Have to be paid enough though. Can't expect a player on $200k to relocate on a whimRestricted free agency compensation needs to go.
As does player consent to trades.

Should only be able to nominate a state. Thats it.
FA comp should go in the first round max exp of first round.
Not every player leaves because of the “go home factor”
No but again you shouldn’t be able to dictate the team you go to. A state yes and obviously cut Melbourne in two. A club should have the rights to say okay we will get you home to Melbourne but we get the best deal. Otherwise you see your contract out OR you enter the draft and take your chances.
These players have way too much power and clubs just bend over and cop it left right and centre.
For instance last year Port why shouldn’t they be able to say Dan okay you want to go home that’s fine you are off to North Melbourne or you stay which one do you want?
League has made an absolute meal out of this. They simply had to give more notice before changes were implemented so clubs had time to prepare and inform list strategy.
After watching other clubs ream the draft for years, Carlton suddenly pays a huge premium for the same benefit, despite Walker nominating under the old system
Basically this means academy players and F/S going to their club wont be a thing for top rated players, because as we know every AFL club refuses to trade anything good. They all want everything for basically nothing.
Of course Brisbane still have their 3 top 5 picks when they were already in the top 4 though
how would this even be enforced. All this does is increase decrease the negotiating power of victorian clubs while pretty much keeping the same power for non vic clubs. Even though i dont think it could be enforced in any way, a better way would be u have to nominate 2-3 clubs rather than one
Maybe, Zeke Uwland has barely played this year and is still in the conversation for pick 1. Albeit in a supposedly weak draft.
Richmond will bid as he was also eligible for their NGA.
there really isn’t an incentive for him now to even participate in the ctl and national champs. He’d be better off training with Carlton each week and just refusing to even talk to any other clubZeke Uwland had a terrific underage year though. There is no real sample set for Cody Walker yet. He can go awol or create a poor sample set and not get involved in the draft shenanigans. Carlton will pick him up wherever.

I'm fine with the changes. Obviously get f***ed by the AFL once again but outside of a bid at #1 we should be fine picking up Walker for a fair price of around 10+11 or so.
The only real gripe I have is that multiple top 4 teams are loaded with NGA and F/S talents they got for peanuts and will likely be reaping the rewards of that rort for another decade while we pay through a kings ransom in comparison.
They're the most laughable sports admin in the world. Anyway, as long as we get Walker next year I'll cop it on the chin and move on.This perennial ding dong will continue with AFL - wait until some club mortgage their future for a draftee and he had to abandon footy for whatever reason - then AFL will be like, oh no, we stuffed up this process for one club and we need to peel it back again to find equilibrium. Round n round we go.
That's why the system needed to change though. Brisbane taking the piss, the system was a debacle.Basically this means academy players and F/S going to their club wont be a thing for top rated players, because as we know every AFL club refuses to trade anything good. Sounds like the top of the ladder teams wont be locked out of the top of the draft but finally have to pay something resembling a proper price. Greg Swan has really gone in guns blazing
Some draftee were already telling recruiters they prefer not to reallocate interstate.I feel this is gonna make kids tank there draft value more than ever to stay at their preferred home state.
Gone in guns blazing after brisbane have picked up all the players cheap under the old system. Interesting one that.

This is how they deal with the rules too. Nothing if not consistent up there at AFL HouseThis perennial ding dong will continue with AFL - wait until some club mortgage their future for a draftee and he had to abandon footy for whatever reason - then AFL will be like, oh no, we stuffed up this process for one club and we need to peel it back again to find equilibrium.
