The amusing part from my perspective is everyone in Victoria seemed to love the father-son rule for decades, until it started working for non-Victorian teams and delivered generational talents like Will Ashcroft to Brisbane. Now all of a sudden some people are questioning its validity when it's helping to deliver non-Vic teams premierships.

I've been rallying against it for 8 or so years. Biggest issue was the frequent nature of the elite talent going to non deserving parties. A top 10 talent once every 3 years barely makes a dint to equalization. Every ****ing year, means teams cannot rebuild and has ruined the purpose of the draft.

The new rules have come in, not before you guys were able to get the twins last year though, among others. Yes the rules will be adjusted but I hope you were channelling your angst last year when you were gifted 2.

The northern states bleed players way more, as it's much easier to keep players in traditional states so having more local players makes sense not just for the club but for the competition. Already we are talking at the Cats getting their fingers on Rowell, that's what northern clubs have to deal with and it's yearly.

The simple solution has been all along, fix the curve and it should have been done 2 years ago, last year at the latest, instead the AFL in their wisdom keep wasting everyone's time. Every year a club will whinge so just do it for goodness sakes it's not actually that hard.

Outside of Rankin I can’t really think of any decent player who has left over the last 5 years that they wanted to keep.

Of course but so have teams that have had success. Recent premiership teams are far from scandal free. The problem is the need for perfection doesn't exist within teams significantly aided by the talent acquisition system.

Off field stuff doesn’t take much to get right that’s on the clubs. You can’t blame others when you have Dodoro keeping a job whilst being useless for a decade. That’s on the club

Not talking about Essendon in the slightest. This is an issue I think is morally wrong. I think it is wasting peoples careers.

It has been fixed with the curve changes. Yes they should have happened earlier

We got one decent player in Bolton, delisted depth (Narkle) is what all teams can get. We didn’t lose anyone for the first time since 2017, ironically, which was the Weller trade that kicked off our exortist.

Gold Coast got a decent player too though in Rioli so not sure how they differ.

GC have lost buckets of good players. Rankin who was their no1 picked became a mummy’s boy. Until it’s completely free of compromise everyone complains.

Be fair you could have kept Hogan though and Cerra is a dud you should be thankful there

Hogan doesn’t become the player he is if he stays in Perth. No regrets there and it actually gave our recruiters & bosses a kick up the arse that resulted in change.

I agree Cerra is a dud but he was tracking better when he left. Carlton are pretty bad at developing & keeping players on the park so there are circumstances involved. Amiss is a gun so no Freo fan is upset about him.

My point is that cap space & opportunity becomes available when players leave. No point giving clubs more access to the draft or concessions if they lose players as they just lose those ones too. Maybe extra soft cap or access to state players, larger list size outside the cap would be more advantageous.

It has to be fair and transparent though, something the AFL is not.

Every team knew Cerra was a flight risk, pre-draft. But you still chose him.

If players are constantly leaving, there's obviously an issue somewhere with the team or club.
