Tamara Henry to the Crows from Victoria. Forward/mid, apparently. Sounds like a pick for needs!

170cm., that puts her around Kelly, Charlton, Bonner etc height.

Tamara Henry

Edit: Lol at the list of improvements, "consistency", "disposal consistency", "kicking consistency". Fair to say she's a bit inconsistent!

Like Smith looks like they have selected her a lot off the back of her athletic profile, if she matches her profile could be handy. 170cm is kinda in between height at AFLW.

It's a good height for a midfielder (Marinoff and Jones 169cm, Kelly 171cm, going back a bit Gibson and Gum were 170cm) but a bit in-between as a forward. Mind you if speed is a weapon for her, she could be another player like Jones.

Tarlinton has played a lot of ruck as a junior apparently so looks like a McKinnon replacement to me. Doubtful she would’ve been in their thinking without McKinnon’s departure.

Well I wanted them to draft Boileau, a forward and tall coverage and they have, can’t complain.

Also again further confirms they do not rate the SANFLW or the next rung of SA juniors behind the Superstar talent.

Such a shame that this year SA had such a great crop of juniors, probably six players in the top ten in the country, and we only got one of them. Oh well, picking for needs is important.

Agreed that Tarlinton is a McKinnon replacement. Good coverage in the ruck and hey, who knows, she might work out up forward. Pairing her with Gould almost guarantees one of them will get an undersized defender.

Looking at Lily Tarlinton’s highlights they posted and they look pretty promising, looks very nimble for a tall, got some footy smarts and has pretty good coordination.

Was a train-on for the Lions and around their squad in the past so do wonder why no contract was ever offered, hopefully a pre-season with the team can bring her up to speed quickly as there’s a spot available straight away for her which is probably not the case for the other new draftees.

Well all we can hope for now is that their coaches and women’s program are mega duds so we can poach poach poach… Young, Goody, Window and Scholz literally the top 4 national prospects this year, 3 handed to them on a platter and one taken with a late first rounder, oh and throw in Brooksby for free, another top 10 national prospect, just for good measure. Pricks have no excuses next year
They're being rewarded for prioritising China over women's footy. The pricks deserve nothing.

Looking at Tamara Henry’s highlights the one thing that stands out more than anything is the strength through the hips, just powerful. I know they listed her standout athletic traits as the main highlights and some inconsistencies with ball in hand but looks like an out and out footballer who knows exactly what to do. Know it’s just a small sample of her best stuff but you can’t not get excited by it.

Rare praise indeed from me and probably too early to call without seeing her play a full game but high praise to whoever rang up Harper & recommended her as she looks a talent.

The AFLW draft is broken: List managers, recruiters have their say on how to fix payment tiers, drafting, player movement

From Newscorp Melbourne Writers Behind Paywall

It is time to blow up the state-based element of the AFLW draft and bin the wildly unpopular four-tier salary system offered to players.
The Herald Sun has canvassed the views of AFLW list managers, football bosses, coaches, agents and players and they headlined five significant transformations the industry is crying out for.

Almost on equal-footing with those two changes are allowing clubs to trade future picks to ease the rigidness of trade period.

The Victorian's want to make it a National Draft

With 2024 Draft still strong for SA.

Even second pick in SA behind Port could be good Both All-Australians U18 in 2023. My Top 6

Gotta feel for those kids

Port treat their AFLW team like they treat their SANFL team. With contempt. Poor girls talents are gonna be wasted at a club who doesn’t give a s**t now they’ve got their precinct funding.

Yes, had a nice bag of tricks in those highlights! Hopefully they will translate to AFLW level.

I guess Brisbane had a premiership-capable side already so simply didn't need her?

Crows have basically already gone national this draft, it’s actually such short sightedness by the Vics considering this SA having multiple top 5 talents in the land is not going to last long and was more just an anomaly compared to most draft classes, it will quickly correct it self to be an all Victorian top 10 talent soon enough.

I know I said it last year about Young and Goody and it ended up happening but the Crows football department have got to get smarter with being more proactive to trade up the draft especially if Port finish below them again and they keep State based nominations and India Rasheed is just going to walk to them, as I’ve said before she’s shaping up as better than Young.

Depending on the next 12 months and where she plays for Centrals and the State team think Charlotte Riggs will be the next best talent then followed by Scholz, SA producing Key Position talents is just so rare they almost probably become much more of a commodity then what Window and Boileau were for the 2 SA clubs. The others listed are probably not near the 1st round at this stage.

I guess Brisbane had a premiership-capable side already so simply didn't need her?
From memory though they did need talls especially after Wardlaw departed & they went and got Jennifer Dunne from Ireland and then picked up Analea McKee from Geelong’s VFLW team as their late signing instead. So it’s not obvious going by the short 1 minute clip but they must’ve not rated something about her as a player especially given she was a local product.

I can't see us finishing below Port Adelaide for a while. Most of our core players (with the exception of Randall and Kelly) are all entering their prime

We should be raiding Port Adelaide where possible as they continue to flounder while we remain near the top. Pulling the Goodwins from them

Friend of a friend knows one of the draftees. Crows can't match their salary.

Hoping the Randall retirement money goes to Young in 3 years lol.

I don't understand the salary comments. The salaries are still on tiered payments, every club pays the exact same salary per tier, other than your top two players. Unless they're saying that Port's new draftees are immediately going on higher tiers than most of the rest of the playing group? (Which to be fair, is probably justified...)
