It's hard to fathom either of these duds getting long term deals.

Having a close look at the 11 club trade, West Coast gave up picks 23 and 24 to get 14 and 38

We ended up getting picks 22 and 26

Why on earth could we not have received pick 14 and 38 or some equivalent instead of 22 and 26?

I'm guessing it's because Port wouldn't have agreed to their pick slide, which is pretty spineless of us.
We really should have just refused being involved unless our first got ahead of Port.

I'm guessing Port felt as strongly on the opposite view.

They won. We should have walked.

Feels like as much as a criticism of the rest of the squad actually.
Hatchard wasn't great this year. Her lack of skills is becoming more and more noticeable as the level of play improves around her. She still plays with unbelievable passion and determination and can still have dominant games, but 4 years is a long time in the womens game. See the improvement over the last 4 years. Now add in that all of the recruits from now on will have played footy from a young age (rather than being a convert) and it's going to escalate.
I fear players like Hatchard are going to be left behind (in competition terms) very quickly.

Draft tonight at 7pm AEDT.

Rookie Me Central’s Adelaide Draft preview: 2023 AFLW Draft preview: Adelaide

Here’s some of Brooke Boileau’s highlights…

As you can see still very raw and lots to work on especially disposal wise, hopefully more professional training standards will iron out those inadequacies. As you can see likes to drop off to either take an intercepting mark or a mark on transition, that ability to get involved on transition is something the crows could definitely use so wouldn’t be surprised if she started in that high half forward role.

Next picks are totally a raffle, they’ll probably be totally random going by what Harper & co. have done on occasions in the recent past, the article suggested some young interstate options or some more mature medium/small defender options like Norwood’s Emily Bartsch or Centrals Georgia Madigan but have doubt they fill a need given the options already available in the squad.

If they do look for defensive coverage with Ward and Whiteley gone would rather a tall mature ager like Tiffany Copley from South Adelaide who reads play well and has a neat kick, could also free up Prowse to play the forward-ruck role.

Also that ruck coverage with McKinnon gone wasn’t addressed in that article and could play a part in their thinking, not a lot of rucks around but in the unlikely event Jorja Borg (181cm who was train-on for the Dogs this year) some how doesn’t get taken by the Dogs at pick 11 the Crows might be interested, young WA U/18 Captain Anjelique Raison standing at 180cm is an option, also is Alex Pearce (183cm) the ruck from Sturt who has nominated as well, she has been improving year on year and could fill in the hole if they want an out an out ruck replacement.

Thinking the other local 18 year old options (Zara Walsh, 173cm forward & Holly Ifould, 167cm winger) may be just a touch too raw for the club to pick up right now, both have some good traits but both have a lot to work on before they could even be seen as ready to play at AFLW level.

At the end of the night if the club doesn’t get any tall coverage or another forward option the squad will definitely be light on and could struggle with options/depth again next season.

Seems more like it's the Hannah Ewingses who are going to be left behind very quickly.

Every club is trying to lock in their Top 2 for the remainder of the current CBA, and most players are asking for that. A lot of them--like Georgie Prespakis, Charlie Rowbottom and Alyce Parker--are prone to a blind hack or wormburner, but they don't have any of Hatchard's grand final related medals.

So if you weren't to offer Hatchard 4 years, and instead risk her wandering over to Alberton, the question is what you would do then?

Hi all, join us over on the AFLW 2023 AFLW Draft Night Thread

Lol that they listed ten players as "headline trades" and McKinnon doesn't even make the list. She's really behind Laloifi and Gavalas?
Well that’s standard but then again hard to argue it not being that highly ranked when the team that got her only had to give away pick 29

“The expansion teams didn’t use this signing ability last year”… that’s because the AFL hadn’t figured out how they were going to structure the further free handouts plus Port were given an extra player no one else got access too on top of this apparent ability…

What a bunch of horseshit to cover utter draft compromising garbage.

Weston-Turner must be a damn good player to go #1 given she missed pretty much the entire year!
Unbelievable athletic traits at that height will do that, both top 2 picks missed a lot of football lately.

Grigg stays a Dog just, Centrals to Western; tackling & kamikaze attack on the ball her strength, rest of the skills aren’t probably there yet, will be interesting if that will improve.

I cannot believe they are actually publicising their draft compromising actions by displaying all the players the expansion teams got for free out on stage. A joke.

Well all we can hope for now is that their coaches and women’s program are mega duds so we can poach poach poach… Young, Goody, Window and Scholz literally the top 4 national prospects this year, 3 handed to them on a platter and one taken with a late first rounder, oh and throw in Brooksby for free, another top 10 national prospect, just for good measure. Pricks have no excuses next year

Hopefully Boileau shows Port snubbing her was a mistake and uses it as added motivation & shows them what they missed out on.

Tamara Henry to the Crows from Victoria. Forward/mid, apparently. Sounds like a pick for needs!

170cm., that puts her around Kelly, Charlton, Bonner etc height.

Tamara Henry

Edit: Lol at the list of improvements, "consistency", "disposal consistency", "kicking consistency". Fair to say she's a bit inconsistent!
