Is that PCW ?

PCWs are the real experts.

Thats why it should be ongoing care minuets, so proper evaluation of policy can occur, instead of some incompetent academics patting themselves on the back while the system collapses.

wow........

Someone with a 3 month online course you call an expert.

This isn't something you learn from a book. You learn after years of experience on the floor.

It's why these academic idiots have got it so dramatically wrong.

You do realise, PCWs, whilst working on the floor, go onto further study and become RNs.

These are the academic idiots you speak of.

They have years of, on the floor experience. Yet, you seem to chastise them, for further educating themselves, so they can see the whole picture for the resident, not just the narrow tunnelled vision you prefer.

I've done further study aswell. Unfortunately, it seems as soon as you step off the floor you forget.

It's why everyone involved MUST have ongoing work on the floor as a minimum.

What further training may that be?
There is a lot of angst in your posts.

The Aged Care reform was urgently needed.Your solution that everyone should work on the floor is untenable and just not relevant .

Seriously, the new processes, protect everyone.

Once a resident enters a facility, they deserve the very best in safe quality care.

Sadly still, some think physically restraining people is humane. It is not.

Their are strict guidelines for a reason, monthly reporting to ensure the residents needs and rights are being adhered to.

Patients can be chemically restrained, and are.Medical practitioners prescribe as needed to ensure all are safe.
IF, you feel thats not happening where you work, then this is a localised issue.

Dont blame academics, thats just word salad.

The reform that has occurred has resulted in increased paperwork (which is fraudulently completed) and less time on the floor with the patients.

It's what happens when a bunch of incompetent ignoramuses make up the rules.

Unless you are regularly working on the floor then you should be nowhere near any decision making process. Downright dangerous

Wow.

Sadly, I think I have a lot more informed knowledge than most in this thread.

Unfortunately it's not informed knowledge. Defending policy that has already failed. The effects of the RC has been a complete disaster.

We need actual experts who work on the floor creating policy.

Repeating that doesn't make it true. Please listen to the actual experts on the floor who are telling you that it has failed before more vulnerable people die from neglect.

Agree to disagree.

We are poles apart.

You believe that un registered people are experts, where I see this as very damaging .

In the bad old days, ALL nursing staff who worked in Aged Care were registered, were therefore accountable for their continued safe practice. Now days, as you say, you define experts in Aged Care, as people who have done a 3 month online course.

Scary stuff.

I'm a expert because I have over 10 years on the floor experience. The Aged Care regulator must be completely dismantled.

The actual course in no way prepares you for what you are going to encounter on the job, nothing really can. You seem to fixate on the short CERT III course instead of experience on the floor which is what makes you a expert.

The sector is collapsing. People in high up positions are patting themselves on the back because they have deluded themselves into believing they are actually doing their jobs.

There is a push to jail aged care providers who are complicent in the abuse and neglect of their patients.
It would be far more beneficial to introduce jail sentences for the people who have drafted and enacted the policies that have allowed this to occur. They are just as guilty imo and should face the same consequences.

Only then will we get the appropriate people in the appropriate positions.

Not sure if the article I saw today (only in passing, was at work) quoted figures for here or for the UK, but it was quite adamant that mortality in state/council-owned aged care homes went up an average of 11% after each was privatised.
