all metro comp have announced return to train protocols in line with AFL Vic. NFL training still suspended. Not a good sign!
NFNL is the only league smart enough not to send clubs back to training before making a decision.

How annoyed would clubs be if they trained this week, bought new tape, opened up the new sherrins, pumped the footys up, organised their coaches and spent money on lights only for the season to be called off?

Good by the NFNL

Shouldn’t that be a decision made by the clubs? If a club wants to return for its players shouldnt they be allowed?

The league is looking very foolish right now, so the June 22nd announcement was bought forward a week giving clubs 6 weeks to prepare but no season has already been called off. The decision should have not been made until June 22nd.

Any chance of a backflip? I have had players enquire about moving clubs because they are desperate to play.

Chances slim to none. There was no drive form the league to start with.

my concern would be under 19s going and not coming back. An area the league is struggling in.

there will be a few more enquires fri okayed with other leagues all but certain to go ahead

Very sad to see other leagues going ahead and NFNL not.

Clubs didn’t want to play but maybe that’s changed now they actually can see the light?

I’d say presidents/comittees didn’t want to play

I would say that is 100% correct.

Many did not back the fact that we looked to be coming out of restrictions and did not speak to players. They thought of themselves and the work they would have to do which is only a little above normal. We were never going to play without crowds, now they will be allowed, money can be made and we could have had a 9 game season. Not perfect but a season.

I would like the AFL-Vic to review the personal that made such a rash early decision and explain why they have a job. Anyone else that costs people and communities this much would be fired straight away.

I was asked by my club “what happens if the other season cancel?” This conversation was had last week before the weekends announcements around restrictions.

My response “at least those leagues tried to get a season going”

Phones will be running hot down at HQ as we speak and a few panicked zoom meetings will surely be had

Weren’t you one of those that didn’t give playing this year a thought? Interesting that no one could see the light at the end of the tunnel until now when it’s too late

Is it too late or is there too much ego involved?
I reckon the league would be uncomfortable about a couple of the leagues most decorated players running around in a rival comp. Even if it’s only for a 9 game season.

At the very least, I cannot see how an Under 19 Competition could not have started. Players subs would cover fees. Geelong and Belleraine have cancelled seniors but kept their 19 comp going

If crowds and bars/functions can operate I can only see this as a disaster for leagues that don’t go ahead. EDFL for example will now be able to raise funds on game day, potentially have to pay $0 in council rates, $0 salary cap and have league fees most likely halved which would be covered at players expense. This will only allow EDFL clubs to generate further income and allow them to really target players to recruit for 2021 from other leagues due to being financially set up from a 2020 season that they persevered with. Clubs in comps that didn’t go ahead won’t have lost money but now not had the ability to raise money on game day to set themselves up for 2021

I didn’t think we would get playing in the NFNL, clubs didn’t want it. That’s what the NFNL based their decision off. Unfortunately now I think some clubs may regret it.

People made decisions from information they had 3-4 weeks ago. We have been told the entire way through that this is changing rapidly. I agree that clubs would have a different opinion today than they did 3-4 weeks ago. We only have 120 active cases nation wide. Where will it stand on July 25th?
