I love Gina. What a great bit of casting.

I'd be embarrassed to be on the reunion show if I were one of these guys who quit within a day.

Sucks for Mike. Definitely had the mental ability to keep going. Not sure if it was just the editing but I think he was easily frustrated and seemed he gave up on the traps far too easy.

Gina though. What a ****ing boss. While the wallaby was a bit of luck everything else about her was just about being better prepared.

First time a male has copped the medical end in the last two with a female.

I couldn't believe how quick the wallaby reacted to the trap. He was so close, why wouldn't he have just reset it?
Because the wallaby now knows the trap is there, and would be avoiding the location - so no point. Plus, he was demoralised at having his hopes raised and dashed so comprehensively.
Wild how, after all the day by day stuff, they're just skipping ahead 4-5 days at a time now.
Happens quite often in the US versions too. Once they settle into a rhythm, there's not a lot to show. Mike & Gina lasted more than twice as long as the other contestants, and the show would get really boring if it was only them for the last 4 episodes.

Gina lasted 67 days, which compares very favourably with the US versions - it's longer than the winners of the US seasons 1, 2 & 5 - and not far off seasons 4, 6, 8 & 9 (all of which finished in the 70s).

Mike bows out due after being medically withdrawn, having spent more than 2 months in the ulu. If you have to go out, then this is the most honourable way of doing so.

Full credit to both Mike & Gina, who lasted more than twice as long as any of the other contestants.

Anyone else watch the reunion show yet? Wild that Mike stayed out there with COVID, it's a good excuse for his physical breakdown!

Good article here, mostly discussing Mike & Gina:
Alone again, naturally: Survival show winner says they could have lasted 20 days more

Gina claims that she had just caught & smoked a bunch of eels, and could have gone to day 90. It also comments on the differences in camerawork between Gina & Mike, resulting in there being zero footage of Gina killing the wallaby - the single most crucial event of the entire season.

It's worth noting that the final day counts for the winners do not reflect their true capabilities. In most cases, they represent the runner up's capability, plus a few days while the producers fly their loved one in for the big reveal. Gina, and (I suspect) many of the other winners, could have gone significantly longer. The only exception to this is US Season 7, which had a defined finish line (100 days), with the runner-up being medically pulled on day 89.

SBS will be showing Alone (US) Season 9, starting at 8:30pm next Tuesday (30th May).

As previously noted, Alone (US) Season 10 commences on 8th June. I assume this will be available in all the usual locations very shortly thereafter.

Fair effort from both with sooooooo little food. Reckon Mike was stiff with their choice of his site.

oh so reunion is on tonite..7:30 (recorded of course)....

so they put the 2 1-nightstanders on the same front row as the finalists...i mean...furrrrg off...
The bloke with the corn rows lasted 18 hours and is talking like he is jungle Jim.

Maybe a different one would have come along either way, he had nothing better to do. He might have caught a bit of luck like Gina did.

Why enzed WHY.?

Head of unscripted programs at SBS, Joseph Maxwell told The Guardian the new setting ‘enabled whole new strategies’ that weren’t seen in season 1 of the show. Tasmania had strict hunting regulations that restricted what the contestants could do to enable their survival.

‘By choosing New Zealand we’re able to introduce bows and arrows, which brings in whole new strategies and skills sets,’ Joseph says.
