Should not have been allowed to play cricket after the SA disgrace.

Mind you the Poms have their own skeletons. I should be surprised Stokes was granted entry to the country after his thuggery.
I thought being a criminal was a pre-requisite for entry to Australia ;)

Stokes was found to be not guilty.
What grounds could you deny him entry?
Apart from being a jet cricketer that is.

Being Irish or poor was the ticket.

Thankfully the useless Pomgolian Empire is shrinking to the Home Counties. ;)

He’s not an all time great. His home record has to be respected and he has played some great innings but he’s Hayden on steroids. I think based on what he did the first time he went to South Africa he could have been an all time great but his travelling record simply isn’t good enough.

Warners home avg is 63, easily the best aus opener in home conditions since the 70s. His away avg is 35 which is comparable to slater. Massive difference between the two average, it's pretty shocking to see. Hayden has a respectable away avg of 42 which is comparable to Taylor and Langer.

I could be misinterpreting your post, but are you suggesting Hayden isn’t an all-time great? His away average is close to on par with both Strauss and Cook - two players I think England fans would consider all-time greats.
Hayden was, and still is, a fair tosser, but he was also a very good Test opener.

Take out India and he more or less struggled every time he travelled but I think he is close to it.

Worth remembering without the Zimbabwe innings his average drops by 2 runs. If you remove the other test of that series, and the farcical world XI tests, his average drops by 5. At his best he was a fantastic player. He was also slightly flattered by his numbers

What I meant by the on steroids part was that Hayden was a prototypical home track dominant player but he DID have it in him to make runs away and occasionally meaningful ones.

I felt langer was the real rock of that partnership, the one who scored the more important runs though Hayden gave his team a psychological factor that not many other sides had

After an ordinary start to his career, Then came India - no need to address it as he played some amazing innings in that series.

He played some great innings against good attacks - he made three hundreds in a series at home against Donald, Pollock, Kallis etc.

But his innings’ of significance away were few and far between.

Matt Hayden's debut hundred against the West Indies is comfortably the worst century I've seen in Test cricket.

It was awful. Dismissed off a no ball (caught at square leg I think off maybe Patterson Thomson?) and dropped I think 4 times. He knew it too, from memory he looked slightly embarrassed to bring up 3 figures

Watching his 380 against Zimbabwe felt odd. Almost like watching a school bully pick on a smaller child.

The difference between that innings and Warner’s triple, which looked almost as easy, was that Warner got on top of and broke some otherwise reasonable bowlers. Hayden’s opposition was rubbish, streak aside who I think was still in the team at that point, well before they started

Most dislikable player I've ever seen in my forty years watching cricket.
