Ban the GABBA

Off the topic I know, but I just need to know concerning train times, if 50 overs for both teams are completed without interruptions on Sunday at the MCG, what time will the match finish?

Probably around 10.00-10.30.

If a rain event or trough is crossing the state then it is likely that there will be a prolonged (2 days to a week) period where sporadic rain events will occur. These rain events have the potential to drop a lot of rain very quickly.

Yes, and this is a common feature of summers in SEQ.

Now Cricket Australia can't predict when these systems arrive, but more often or not it does rain in Brisbane in January, and so they should take extra steps to ensure we minimise rain affected matches.

Consquently, the main people who are calling for the Gabba to be banned are showing their lack of intelligence. A simple rain event bracketing a double header at the Gabba has washed these games out.

And the point we're making is that the other capitals such as Adelaide and Perth, don't even have these "simple rain events" to begin with- so no risk involved.

No one is calling for an outright ban of the Gabba.

Well the thread title could have fooled me.

Well then what exactly are you people saying.

Just off the top of my friend a previous poster mentioned 4 games have been washed out of the last 10, i assume the poster included the 2 games just past and i assume the other 2 are the 3rd CH Game in 2004 and the West Indies match 2004/2005 when Australia was 5/60 odd or something.

YEs Brisbane and the SE gets thunderstorms in summer however, its not like they happen everyday. They are associated with troughs, therefore you can go a month without rain and then get a trough and you can get thunderstroms every night for a week. Thats how it works.

DEAL WITH IT.

To all of Perth im sorry for jynxing the weather, I can believe its bloody raining today :(.

Seriously, how many one day fixtures have to be ruined because of their shite weather?

I know a few QLD'ers will whinge and whine that this is a once off but they have got to stop kidding themselves.

Maybe if they insist on having games there, make them day games, try and beat the afternoon storms that seem to come in every time international cricket heads to the GABBA.

Im sick of it.
I realise that you are angry and upset at the fact that the weather stopped the cricket up at the GABBA ground.
However, you can't do anything about the weather. You just have to learn to put up with whatever you are given.

Come back when MCG can find a pitch where you can bowl a bouncer that goes over head height or when Adelaide can find a pitch that both teams don't score 600 in their first innings.

Scores of over 600 at Adelaide Oval in it's history:

1 Aus 674 151.3 - W 4th Test Aus v Ind 1947/48 [294]
3 WI 616 137.2 - D 4th Test Aus v WI 1968/69 [645]
2 Pak 624 191.2 - D 3rd Test Aus v Pak 1983/84 [970]

To be fair, there would have been a few declarations in the 500s.

This is the most ridiculous thread, EVER! Unless we want cricket played indoors, on astroturf, with each ground around the world being exactly the same dimensions and playing conditions, then you'll have to accept variabilities amongst venues.

Yes, it rains in Brisbane, though not much lately and I for one, am bloody thankful for the rain. Boohoo to you if you didn't get to watch a bit of cricket.

Quite right, nothing much has changed from this time last year or previous years.

Playing ODIs at the Gabba at this time of year is just asking for trouble. Everyone moans about how unlucky it is that the game today is washed out. It isn't bad luck, it's piss poor scheduling.

The evidence shows that games are more likely to be rain affected or washed out at the Gabba than anywhere else in Australia, so why play matches there? Play more matches in Perth, Adelaide or Melbourne where there is much less chance of rain at this time of year. It's not ****ing rocket science.

The Brisbane games are nearly always sold out though or close to it, so thats $$$. I agree though, why the fudge would CA schedule the last game of a series at the Gabba at this time of year? I have no problem with a game being played there, but make it the first game of a series, like it has been in the past.

Ban the SCG, it has rain all the time as well;)

They play the Test match in November for a reason at the Gabba.
