Maybe because there is zero chance he will be on your list next year?

We have a strong history of bidding on players when they're next on our talent list even though matching was expected. Why do you think that'll be shelved for JUH? Answer, without a trade for their first, it won't. There's things we do bad, this isn't one of them.

We should pick swap, take the bulldogs 1st round pick and then take their player with pick 1 anyway.

Otherwise we could be accused of draft tampering. Only way to clear that accusation is by bidding. Once we've already got the bulldogs pick what are they going to do it about it?

LOL, drafting is subjective how could it be tampering* if we select any player at any of our picks?

*Unless we are stupid enough to put the details in an email there is nothing the AFL can do.

and if we don't put it in an email then what are the bulldogs going to do when we decide to have our cake and eat it too?

Get their pick, burn their points by bidding with pick 1.

This is a competition and every loss to an opponent is a gain for us.

Would serve them right for trying to game a system that already heavily favors them with unbalanced advantages.

so you are living by the motto that you have to be 100% behind someone ...to stab them in the back

If the bulldogs want to try and abuse a system that is ALREADY set up to unfairly advantage Victorian teams I have no issue with punishing them for it.

Exactly, you could argue we are tampering by bidding on JUH, when we have no intention of getting him. It's no secret he's pick 1 and bulldogs will be matching, so its in their best interest to try and split their higher picks into multiple smaller picks.

Why would the pressure from the Adelaide media be any different whether or not you bid on JUH at pick 1 or not? It’s such a strange argument to make that you think the pressure from the local media will be any less just because you might match a bid on pick 1 and choose your player at 2. It won’t make any difference.
Examples, McAsey and Jones. 18 and 19 yet they are already whipping boys to some. Imagine the pressure on a No1 AFL pick Australia wide. Boyd gave up footy, Jack Watts and a umber of other didn't live up to it.

You obviously don't live in Adelaide.

For the first 3 years we had Danger on our list every news article mentioning him contained the quote "controversially taken before Ebert"

The hounding on a pick one from Adelaide would make the spotlight put on Watts look like a candle. If he then becomes pick two after JUH there will be less media bullshit.

Controversially taken at pick two ahead of player X is not as sexy as taken as pick one ahead of player X.

Exactly JUH is worth pick one, why wouldn't we bid on him with our first pick. The biggest no brainer in our history on draft night.

No, the biggest no-brainer in our history is trading later picks for the Dogs first rounder, with a wink and a nod to not bid on JUH.

Also, there are a LOT of draft experts who don’t have JUH rated as the best player in this draft. Very much on par with Hollands and McDonald according to most. There’s no clear standout this year, but those 3 are in their own tier.

1)Wink and nods get the AFL deciding to make an example of you when you're not a Victorian side
2)Why would we do the dogs a favor like that? We can take their pick and then bid anyway.
3)Even if JUH is only on par with the others (he isn't) the dogs only have a chance at ONE of them so they WILL match a bid. So even if we see him as only on par with them it is to our benefit to burn the dogs out of the draft and then take the player we want.

Not sure what's missing but the Tippett, Danger, Lever and McGovern trade threads were much more entertaining and fast-moving. In those days you'd check it after two hours and there'd by 25 new pages.

We need to lift.
This thread hasn’t hit the sauce-pantry-fridge stage yet.

Damian Barret can Go get fcuked..we are just not interested in your biased sh1tty position on Brad crouch

my sources say no pick 2
Your source works for the AFL does he ?

The Crouch deal could still end in disaster .....if his Contract doesn't meet band 1, and we decide to match in the belief St Kilda will trade .....this could blow up on us and end up with Crouch staying on a huge contract we don't want

St Kilda might simply say, no thanks, we'll take Treloar with COLL now offering to contribute $100 - $200K of his Contract

Crouch or Treloar heavily subsidized ......trade required would be similar

Pray for Pick 2

Treloar wants to stay in Melbourne .....COLL want him to go to the Gold Coast for #5 .....he's still separated bt States from his wife, so expect Treloar to say No to GC

Yeah, Treloar has thrown a spanner in the works. I think Saints are comitted to Brad though and it wouldnt be great optics by them if they say...er sorry we have something better now.

I still think Brads a chance to stay if the contract offer is 4 with a 5th trigger because we would only need to match the 4 years. Kelly said on radio that we arent in the business of giving up good players under worth.

A few clubs chasing Bulldogs #12 .....odds on we bid at #1 on JUH

This would be the deal breaker to have Bulldogs prefer to deal with us over #12 .....no draft tampering here

I was replying as what Barrett said.

You won't get a much worse take on the Crouch situation than this from Jay Clark...

CROUCH DEAL

At this stage St Kilda is not prepared to pay Brad Crouch more than $7000,000 to trigger the No. 2 pick the Crows desperately want.

The midfielder was caught by police with an illicit substance at season’s end and demand for his services dropped-off at Geelong, Richmond and Port Adelaide.

An end-of-first round compensation pick would slot in for the Crows about No. 20. It seems about right for a player who finished outside the top-10 of the best and fairest from 12 games this season.

But this transaction might not stop there.

The Saints have pick No. 15 and want to keep it, but could be willing to off-load South Australian onballer Luke Dunstan, and contracted pair Jimmy Webster and Dylan Roberton to help clear some salary cap room and satisfy Adelaide.

It means the Crows could get pick No. 20 as free agency compensation, then separately, secure Dunstan or one of the other two from the Saints on the cheap for a later pick as an added bonus.

St Kilda is open-minded about trading some of its players. Dunstan, who was injured, played only one game this year, while Roberton only managed one and Webster racked up eight.

The Crows have four picks inside the top-25 of this year’s draft including the No. 1 selection.

If they wanted to play hard ball with the Saints, Adelaide could threaten to trade Crouch for Orazio Fantasia, but that seems highly unlikely.

Salary cap room will be important for the Saints as they plan to have another crack at Gold Coast’s Ben King next year.

Hey everyone gets on the turps occasionally and rambles on with a bit of gibberish.
