All year the message is we are going for pick 2 because we finished last and that’s first rd compo pick. He’s not worth pick 2 but that’s irrelevant.

We’ve said we will review the offers before we decide to match.

But if in the background we’ve made it clear to Brad and his manager we don’t want him, it makes the threat of matching just a bluff which will fail. Just like we bluffed with Keath and backed down.

We have form of pushing players out and screwing ourselves in the trade.

Totally agree .....in fact our two most damaging mids this year were Schoenberg, who's a goal kicking mid, and laird

Laird was superb at getting to the ball first and either getting out of congestion or applying the pressure on opposition mids, none of our regular mids were able to do

With Crouch gone and Sloane on the wrong side of his bell curve ......our midfield is still a long way from the 10+ mids you need rotating thru in a game

Because we haven’t told Crouch ‘he’s out’

Problem is he is going to be right. There is nothing set in stone that if Brad gets this it's band 1. The AFL can do whatever they like and its sounding like they realize the FA compo system is a joke.

I don't believe it can be that drastic an "adjustment". Whether he's in the top 5% of earners is entirely a mathematical decision, with no room for interpretation. They can't throw that out without having our team of lawyers coming at them with an appeal. On the other hand, what I expect could happen is that they could adjust "down" in a marginal case for us, where they might adjust "up" for someone with a Victorian aura.

Well that’s how I interpreted things recently, but it seems as if the AFL are moving the goalposts considerably in what power this committee has. To me they almost seemed to indicate that they could interpret players as ‘belonging’ in Band 1 or not.
