I’m not sure if this has been covered by someone else, but the ‘leaked’ email seemed to indicate that regardless of what sort of contract Crouch might be offered, if he’s not deemed to ‘belong’ in that upper echelon of 5% earners, by this mysterious compensation committee, then he might not have a chance of gaining Band 1.

I don't believe it can be that drastic an "adjustment". Whether he's in the top 5% of earners is entirely a mathematical decision, with no room for interpretation. They can't throw that out without having our team of lawyers coming at them with an appeal. On the other hand, what I expect could happen is that they could adjust "down" in a marginal case for us, where they might adjust "up" for someone with a Victorian aura.

Well actually they can, because all reports indicate there are specific conditions within the free agency that allows them to make adjustments. That is why they have staff dedicated to handling free agency compensations rather than just a simple program that takes a few variables and spits out a result.

Indeed, but I don't think they would say that there's no way Crouch will get Band 1, regardless of what salary he gets paid, which was being implied.

What sort of a message does it send to not just the rest of the comp if we just roll over and accept band 2 for one of our very best players coming into their prime but the players we already have here.

This is a line in the sand moment and we had better bloody well force a trade and i'd go so far as to say we err on the side of caution and match any bid unless it is really big and band 1 is a given. I said it before and will say it again if we lose brad for a mid 20's pick we may as well hand back our license and close our doors as we are no longer a proper functioning club

On the Saints' board, they say Ch7 Adelaide has said that the Crows will match to force a trade if Saints don't increase their offer. Apparently, we will ask for at least pick 14 and something else. They say we are dreaming!

What I’m saying is that Saints simply tacking on a bit more to Crouch’s contract and us taking on a player as a salary dump might not work if the committee deem it to be ‘artificially’ trying to generate Band 1 compensation.

Absolutely woeful PR exercise by the AFL today, and we should explore any avenue available to us if the Saints offer should be high enough for Band 1, but we don’t get it. I do believe we can appeal the decision.

Saints also not really doing us any favours with their offer.

Despite Brad saying he’s looking for a new change of scenery, he also said he still loves the club and wants us to receive adequate compensation for him. Will be very interesting to see how this all plays out

I think the contract has to be at least 800k to trigger band 1

Does our club even know what team first is? Sloane, Tex and Talia all played clearly injured this year whilst younger players who deserved game time were left playing meaningless scratch matches. I guess Brad didn't come out saying how much better a son, father, husband that collective minds made him, so there is that. I doubt our club has the faintest clue what team first is.

My thoughts ; Brad is a bit over-rated

He wants to be oaid as an elite footballer but doesnt hurt the opposition like an elite fpotballer
