Number of flags Lions fans have seen in their lifetime = 3
Number of flags Saints fans have seen in their lifetime = 0

If anything - we need a priority pick.

So?

St Kilda have made numerous mistakes over the past century. Seaford wouldn't even make the top 100.

That's alarming.

You and Caroline can agree to disagree.

As for my doubts on this proposal, well in it's original form it sounded like a typical SEQ pipe-dream. If the proposal is now either the general purpose elite sporting facility or the Lions (not both) then it makes sense as a location for the Lions. However I'd still have some concerns about it satisfying the AFL's broader concerns for football in Brisbane but that's a secondary issue for the Lions (except in terms of how much the AFL will kick in).

The AFL have already kicked in $5 million. We'll let Brisbane, the ACU and MDA (who have money) work out where the extra funding will come from.

Nothing like it.

The original proposal was for the sharing of facilities in the precinct. Same as in Melbourne as already described.

Cheers. So it is the same site?

I'm assuming therefore that's it pretty much reliant then on federal government funding?

They're talking to the State government as far as I am aware. MDA are putting up a very nice sum as well as giving it a "community focus", the AFL are chipping in for 5 million. The Australian Catholic University partnership adds to the "community value" pitch. The Brisbane Airport Corporation are very keen too.

The model is more joint Lions (Men's, Women's and Academy) + Community + Corporate rather than Multi-use sport. The Lions have seconded AFLQ's head infrastructure guy to spearhead the pitch - he is incredibly impressive. Same guy who did Metricon's redevelopment.

Actually, l have seen 0. All this flag stuff may be nice for lions fans who watched footy 15 years ago but it doesn't really mean much to some supporters who started watching after the 3 peat. And for the fans like me who never saw that period, repeatedly see the team get smashed week after week, year after year, then there isn't much incentive to continue supporting them and paying for memberships. Supporters will drop like flies (they already are) and we will have to fold eventually.

I hope you don't think supporters of other clubs are going to feel sorry for you.
As a Bulldogs supporter, we haven't seen our team even play in a Grand Final since 1961 and you are disappointed because you team hasn't won a flag since the three peat.
You don't know what disappointment is yet.

You clearly misinterpreted my entire post...

Will just leave that here and hope the world hasn't imploded by the morning.

Carlton in 2015 lost to Collingwood by over 12 goals.
Carlton lost to Brisbane last year both times
Carlton lost to GWS by 78 points last year and by 81 points.
Carlton lost by 138 points to Hawthorn

This year Carlton has been caned by St Kilda, kicked only five goals against Gold Coast, received another 10 goal thrashing from GWS etc etc..etc..and yet Brisbane deserve the priority pick alone the AFL will tell us.

If Brisbane warrants a priority pick, so too does Carlton....not that it will make much difference. The priority pick is held out as some almighty miracle....yet you need more than just one priority pick to turn around rubbish clubs. The draft needs an overhaul if they genuinely want a more even competition.

I dunno man, 2 priority picks sounds a bit unrealistic, but I like your optimism.

Priority picks are largely fools gold.

Well put it this way, Carlton has had three priority draft picks over the journey and only one of them has been substantially good.

Walker - plenty of injuries -played all over the shop to fill in numerous gaps in a weak team- didn't reach full potential.
Kreuzer - numerous injuries - achieved very little.
Murphy - a good return on the investment.

People can't say "oh Carlton recruited poorly". Yet you can't anticipate injuries. Walker and Kreuzer were star players in the u18s...so it wasn't as if the recruiters chose duds....so really the chances of Carlton and Brisbane turning around their teams are minimal - priority pick or no priority pick.

Some other priority picks for other clubs include Colin Sylvia, Xavier Ellis (did play well in 2008), Josh Fraser, Travis Johnstone, Paul Hasleby etc.
Hardly world beaters.

So let me get this straight, you think you deserve a PP because you lost to a few clubs by decent margins?

First of all, your team is showing a lot more improvement thn the previous few years.
Second, you dont have an average losing margin of 130 points
3rd how many 1st round picks have you got on your list now? (obviously we would have had more than 3 by now if it wasn't for that silly little go home factor)

Improvement? We don't have a forward who can kick a goal.
Brisbane has had an average losing margin that has blown out in the last few weeks due in part to excessive injuries.
Your team has a strong midfield and a new and up and coming forward.
They are not taking into consideration injuries and a coaching overhaul.

I don't disapprove of priority picks per se as long as it is extended to other crap teams. Picking out just one crap team out of the 4 or 5 that are rubbish is really counter-productive. It is like putting a finger in a dyke....and how do you quantify Brisbane's injuries into the equation? With a full team and a new coach would those losses have occurred ?

It'd be just ace that we get our first high pick since expansion and Brisbane get a priority to push us back a spot.

Yeah, that genuinely kinda sucks. So does being by far the worst team in the league but missing out on the first pick because a team that doped its players gets pick 1 on top of a massive influx of quality senior players.

We were also shit during the expansion drafts. Nothing like being in the bottom 3/4 teams and ending up with pick 8/10 two years running.

Shit sandwich.

Pfft apparently we are a basket case for the entire season but when a PP could possibly come to us posters say we aren't too bad and it is just inguries. Big Footy :drunk:

yes Carlton have improved, it is plainly obivious to see over this season compared to last. Earlier in the season we had a fairly healthy injury list and guess what, still uncompetetive. The difference l see between being a shit team and one deserving of a PP is the sheer uncompeteetiveness of the Lions. We are so far away from the 2nd worst team, it is amazing.

To b honest, l don't think a PP is going to fix us, we have too many other problems but it will help us with supporters and help us remain somewhat competitive with more elite talent.

Maybe the question shouldn't be what they need help with but rather what don't they need help with?

Listening to Brisbane supporters it sounds as though they're a basket case beyond redemption.

Yes we are and looks like we might get our PP

Well they are getting one, judging by Gil's latest comments..

If we didn't get a priority pick at the end of 2013, Brisbane shouldn't get one now. We were much worse than they are now.

I think you certainly would have got one if it weren't for the whole tanking debacle earlier that year. AFL couldn't have fined you for "acting in a manner prejudicial to the interests of the competition" to get a priority pick only to give you another one later that same year.

What's the point? Whoever they pick up will just leave for greener pastures.

Depends. If it's part of a package that seeks to restore competitiveness to us across the board our pastures may start to turn green.
