As a Melbourne supporter Ray has shown alot more. I would still take Sylvia though simply because he has been hampered by injuries. But...Sylvia is bloody frustrating to watch...he doesnt try and get the ball. He turns his back on the ball..runs in the opposite directions. It looks like he is trying to miss out on the play to avoid stuffing it up. I just feel like giving him a smack on the chops and tell him the start having a bloody crack. He has shown as many bad signs as Brock Mclean has shown good. And Sylvia is in a sling at the moment and doesnt even look like getting better.

I like Sylvia, he has some good attributes but he's injury prone and he's only been in the system 3 years.

Ray has shown far much more.

Both will be good players in the future though. Neither Club will regret their decisions to pick 'em up.

Sylvia's a damn nice kick, but I agree Ray has more silky skills - but Sylvia can kick goals form set shots outside 50 so distance wise he gets the nod imo.

He may very well become a great player, but I agree that he hasn't exactly shown anything to say he may become such.

I concur.

What the hell is Carlton's fans obsession with Andrew Walker? He may become a good player at BEST, but that's as far as he'll go. He's done nothing to suggest otherwise.
No, he's already a good player, at WORST, and had his disposal been any better, he'd be much higher rated.

Pretty good stats for a player in his third year, playing out of defense. Once he moves into the midfield and plays the majority of the game there, instead of having to be accountable on a defender (which he does very well, BTW). He has got a heap of upside, and now that he's fully developed (he's huge ATM), he should be dominant this year.

For an example of why Walker is rated so highly, why not watch his debut game, or Carlton vs Melbourne/Fremantle (rnd 17-18)? He had a much better year than some give him credit for, but individual performances will go unnoticed in a wooden spoon side by opposition supporters.

Disagree, Walker has shown more than Sylvia and Ray imo I just think Sylvia and Ray have more potential.
Well, I disagree aswell.

Ray has been alot more attacking and has actually helped his side win games. When looking at players, thats one of the main ingredients, Ray has won his side games or influenced the outcome of the match.

Walker still has to improve his kicking and actually get some possesions in the middle of the ground.

If Ray was playing for the blues he would be in their top 3 midfielders. If Walker was playing with the dogs he would be in werribee.
Walker would slot into your defense very nicely. As I said earlier, he's underrated because he is playing in the wooden spoon team. Just out of curiosity, how many Carlton games did you watch this season?

Oh, and Simpson, Murphy and Stevens are all better than Ray, and so will Walker if (and when) he is moved into the midfield.

Ahead of who exactly in our defense? I mean, we struggle there, but I don't know he'd play ahead of.

B: Morris - Harris - Hargrave

Wouldn't play ahead of any of them, he's a better player than Hargrave, but not for the role we want him playing.

HB: Griffen - Grant - Gilbee

Certainly not better than any of those guys in what they do. So I don't see where he'd slot in.

Ray is a better player than Kade Simpson. If Walker can't get a game in Carlton's midfield, that would mean he isn't as good as you make him out to be, one would think.

Wrong, Simpson is much better than Ray. And look at Hodge - couldn't get a game in the Hawks midfield til his fourth season - and even than still spent time in defense. Playing in a different position doesn't mean anything, Walker's being taught a defensive side. Although I expect Walker to move into the midfield, I wouldn't be suprised if he spends most of his time in defense.

Hodge couldnt get a game in the midfield much because he was doing his 'apprenticeship' in defence, much like Griffen for us.

Simpson? Not a chance. Carlton Fans overrate this kid. Sure, he's improved and can run but he's not up to - or near - Ray.

Stevens from what I saw in '06 was poor and look disinterested. Murphy I'll give you but he should be, being the #1 pick from last years draft.

Come to think of it, any kid with an inkling of talent, Carlton Fans overrate. Can't blame 'em, though.

But seriously.

Simpson & Walker are pumped up by their Fans way too much. They've improved, and aren't half bad players, but they aren't great players and still are behind a number of other young midfielders from other Clubs.

And Walker for us. He came at the club being mainly an attacking player, so to teach him defensive aspects, he's been played in defense and as a tagger.
