Sean Abbott, Xavier Barlett, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Lance Morris, Todd Murphy, Jhye Richardson, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

Gone are Neser, Stoinis, Agar, Harris with Bartlett, Hardie, Ellis and Short the new guys on the block. Word is as Smith will be retained as opener and Labuchagne survived the axe, the batting order for the India series will be unchanged. Bartlett, Hardie and Inglis will probably be on standby should there be a need for rotation over the five match series.

Richardson has a charmed life as he has barely played in the last 12 months. Shows how much CA values his skill. Could say Spencer Johnson lucked out as a result of the Richo inclusion and the retention of Scotty Boland.

Could really make do with 15 contracts plus pay as you play for the rest.

Basically only 4 red ball bats plus Green and Marsh in a 23 man squad.

I think Aaron Hardie and Josh Inglis will be on stand by. Marsh is already going downhill, Hardie would be an able replacement. That, or Inglis could come in as a batsman only. They may also feel Matt Short can play both formats.
Short better not be near the test squad anytime soon. He's a deadset average red ball player, one great shield season notwithstanding.

it's not as if we have much cricket in the next 8 months.

7 tests over the aussie summer (with 2 of them in sri lanka) should see a stable top 6 (pending injuries).

can usman get through the 7 tests and providing we qualify for the WTC final, go one more test and finish up there ?

could maxwell be a smoky to get a spot on the sri lanka tour?

No reckon ussie will retire after the Indian series and Fox cricket has given him a contract I believe . Can see him setting up his media career starting next season during the Big bash. I cannot see him going to Sri Lanka will be a perfect time to blood a new opener and I reckon they most likely will move Head to open and smudge drop down the order. and a new opener partner Head at the top

No maxi will be a white ball specialist only I can't see him getting a gig to Sri Lanka

yeah i thought the recently concluded nz series would be as far as he goes.

if he plays the india series, he may want to tour sri lanka and finish up in the WTC final shortly after.

blooding a new player in the west indies in a new WTC cycle and a warm up to a home ashes series could also be a possibility.

Good on him. One of the lucky ones to have his life mapped out post cricket.

Have a feeling Ussie is the type to finish in a big one, namely the Ashes or a new 5 match India series.

Agree blood a new opener in the Windies. But who. I think the county season may be important for a few blokes, one being Matt Renshaw. Liked to have seen other candidates such as Bryce Street, Tim Ward, Nathan McSweeny or Henry Hunt also put their name up for a county stint. They may have missed a big chance here. All bar McS did play English League cricket last season, tho.

Think it will come down to Uzzie's form and how much he values retiring at home.
If he struggles against India or is desperate for a home farewell, he'll retire then.
Otherwise it's only 2 or 3 more tests and start fresh with the new opener, in the next cycle.

CA having control over the players on how often they play in County cricket is outrageous.. I don't know how they get away with that in 2024.
