Green is not a specialist batsman
They picked him as one even noting they were picking the best batsman. He is being picked as a specialist batsman.

I'm not even arguing to drop Green, I'm just pointing out the utter stupidity in these moronic Western Australians with their Carey obsession when their own batsman has the same record, over the same period. And who had a worse series with the bat against the West Indies. The poster in question was even defending Green on the basis of him making a 40 yet laying the boots into Carey who made a very crucial knock (and higher score) in the first innings.

Crowd figure for day 4 posted as 3162.

That's very bad.
This was said repeatedly yesterday. Days 4 or 5 when there is little chance of more than half a days play almost never get big crowds.

I am not sure why this is even a big deal. Australian fans are one of the best Test Match attending fanbases going around.

He averaged over 50 in the Shield with 8 tons. Just because he is struggling to find his feet with the bat at test level doesn't make him not a batsman
Im not saying hes a bad bat. Just saying hes not a specialist batsman. Same as Alex Carey and Mitch Marsh. Needs to be judged on his bowling just as much as his batting, even though hes at number 4

He shouldn't be at number 4 right now. The team needs batting more right now and that is his best bet to make it with the team. We need him to be a batting allrounder, as I am not that sure he can be a front line bowler with his body.

No hate I just think he’s not test standard for a number 4. Marsh and Green shouldn’t be playing together. Play one and a proper batter. Green has had lots of chances and he looks uncertain about how to play and if you don’t see that you must be from WA.
Don’t give a * what state they’re from, I just find it hilarious you want to drop a bloke averaging 50 in Fc for a bloke averaging 35

Personally if I was picking the team I'd have Bancroft opening, Smith at 4 and Green at 6 but they've gone with Smith opening and Green at 4 so they'll go with that (and should) for at least the New Zealand series. Then I believe there's no more test matches until England next summer? Smith as an opener is probably here to stay and Green even if not making runs is a better option than Marsh (better at all three facets of the game) so I'd also retain him for the start of the England series, regardless of how things go in New Zealand.

I'm not convinced on Marsh at all as a test level batsman but he did have a good Pakistan series and from all accounts is a great bloke so wish him well.

Smith as an opener is still an open question as well. He did well against the West Indies last innings but things will be much trickier in New Zealand and even next summer with England's bowling attack.

I literally read a comment a few days ago on Facebook after Australia slumped to 4-20 odd in the first innings saying ‘this is what happens when your captain goes woke.’

Yeah. Smith fell across his stumps because Pat Cummins has an opinion on the environment mate. That’s what it is. Marnus can’t work out where his off stump is at the moment because Cummins agrees with a lot of people that Jan 26 is a touchy date for people to celebrate our nation. It beggars belief the kind of connection people will draw between on field performances and off field personality

Many conservatives and RWNJ’s/people who watch Sky News unironically have been sticking the boot in whenever Australia lose a match ever since Cummins took over and has the audacity to beleive climate change is real.

I remember similar crap when:

1. Langer was let go as coach
2. Not making semis for t20 World Cup
3. Losing first 2 tests in India
4. Losing first couple of matches of World Cup
5. Now with this loss

Some people will see literally anything through the lens of culture wars.

You will struggle to find 5 people who think this team is the best Australian team ever or that Cummins is the best captain ever. This is literally something you have made up in your head. Probably because you want something to wack the team with. No doubt you shat over all the team when they lost the Ashes badly here in 2010 and also whinged when the team never lost at home for 15 years because it was "boring". Just one of those weirdos that whinges about the team no matter what which makes one wonder why you even bother pretending to be a fan. There's no "we" here bud, just drop the act because you're no good at it.
Nah I loved the old Aussie team that's something you needed to make up to fit your rant mate. Hate this one though and I love that it triggers you.

My take as a non Aussie fan.

You need more time to assess what’s going on.

Most teams don’t make decisions about this sort of things based on guys who:

- have just started opening in Smith’s case and have played one really excellent innings. Whatever you think about his approach (I happen to think he played it about as well as he could have and the likes of Starc and Lyon need to have a good hard look at themselves as to the shots they played) he nearly single handedly won a test match despite his two failures in other innings.

- have been hovering around the 35-40 average mark across an extended period after a really prolific period. Few if any teams dispense with a top order player who has done what Labuschagne has done even if his last 12 months has been below par. It hasn’t been sub-35. He gets more time yet.

- Green has only just been brought back in. He gets more than two tests, plus he bowls. Two tests isn’t an experiment or a trial, it’s two games.

- Head is going nowhere but he’s the one player I would actually be concerned about because he has to learn to change his game and at the moment he seems incapable of doing it.

- Marsh needs to do that too but his form is better than Head’s. He needs to develop gears to his game.

- Carey has been adequate and his keeping has been really good.

The bowlers have all been outstanding.

The team does not deserve the sort of scrutiny it’s under, at least for the time being. A defeat in New Zealand may change that but they have their own issues at the moment

There was blood coming from it: yes it’s not a war wound I understand that but when the ball doesn’t actually deflect further towards fine leg or the slips cordon, that usually means it’s actually hit flush, ie. it’s trying to push the nail in. That is ******* painful and you could see him walking between deliveries that he was in real genuine pain and he didn’t even have his own shirt at the ground to begin with so his own team staff weren’t expecting him to bowl

It wasn’t Graeme Smith but it was a bloody big effort

You said he had a busted foot....now it's a busted toenail.....mate, the kid did fantastically well, showed immense courage, but stop exaggerating the narrative.....you sound like the fella who comes into hospital, wailing he has partially amputated his finger, and when the bandage comes off, there is a 1cm paper cut underneath.....but nonetheless just as painful no doubt.

Spot on assessment....that is a great read.....too many folk pushing the destruct button with Smith and Green....great post

You know what I meant. I wasn’t literally trying to say ‘he had a broken foot.’

Only a teasing mate, as an E.D nurse you do laugh at folk exaggerating the narrative from time to time.....toe contusion's are painful....but good to see the young fella chuck a few laps of the GABBA after that Hazlewood wicket.....adrenaline is a wonderful analgesic

India best us home and away but that's irrelevant. We can be the best, best of a s**t bunch

We did beat them at the oval in the world test championship final, I don’t think there is much in it. If we won 2 series and lost the final people would then dismiss the series wins and call us chokers.

India did lose yesterday as well in a test btw.

On Green, again this is

Oh mate I know it myself, I’ve had a chronic knee problem for years but it was never anything that two quick wickets couldn’t fix
