I really miss the football, all this post season stuff is getting boring.

However, who else is really keen on seeing what kind of gold Hine and his new sidekick dig up with all our (reasonably high) draft picks?

if they nail this, i can see this draft extending our window for years for a very small cost.
I had a feeling that next year, we'd have too many good players to keep locked away in the VFL anyway. i mean, paine, luke ball, macaffer, ceglar/gault/witts, seedsman...
the inconsistent wellingham and to a much larger extent, dawes, were under siege.

very keen on next season! its so far away...

I'm finding it intriguing myself. We go through the season cheering for our players. We watch press conferences where players are lauded or defended. We reckon our players are grouse. Then suddenly we need to come to terms with some of them not actually being so grouse because the club has shown them the door.

I'm interested to see what type of players we recruit. (mids? Backs? Talls?). But realistically, it'll be hard to get excited about the players themselves yet. Yes, the drafts are relatively high, but that's high or us. It's still low compared with most other teams. I think we have to wait until the season starts before we can think about getting excited about our new recruits (as per Beams, Sidebottom, Fasolo, Paine)

Indeed!

personally, all i can see is about 100 top players going to the gold coast or greater western sydney. Just when you think you know all about the draft, they roll out a "mini-draft" where the Suns get more picks. It's ridiculous......if the two new teams cant win a couple of premierships from all the potential superstars they are being tossed, they will NEVER win a premiership...

In fact, I reckon that they will win all the premierships that they will ever win by 2024. They will NEVER win a premiership after that year because they wont be able to do it without being given one. The draft is a joke. I dont know how our football dept can go to sleep at night, trading away players trying to get a decent pick...... but GWS end up getting 7 picks before the Pies even get one...wtf????

This is after getting a swag of picks last year. Have many do they need to be absolutely sure of winning a premiership? It's ridiculous

And then there's that low life suck of a club called Melbourne. Having got number one and two draft picks for a couple of years, they are still struggling to find a forward.... talk about losers!

I dunno, I just can't get interested in all this trade and draft stuff. I'm just thinking about next season and how far away it is. It's just all so boring to me. Is anyone else like this?
i actually look forward to it the moment we are out of the running for the flag.

Pre season bores me though i must admit , unless its us playing , where as normal season i can watch any game from start to finish

over it to tell the truth, at the point now where i think we just tell Dawes if he doesnt harden the f@ck, put in a massive pre season, he is gonna be kickin dew for the rest of his career at the Pies.

Just wanna see them hold up the cup.

..but the draft and all that is interesting. Actually more interesting than the previous decade.

For the first time in years I'll watch the draft with interest after the first 2-3 picks, because for the past few years we simply haven't featured at all on the TV or radio coverage, who usually broadcast the first round then talk crap throughout the rest of it.

If we trade Dawes for a first rounder, we will have three picks on the coverage, way more interesting than waiting for trades to be (or not to be) announced via social media.

Agree with you there. The AFL tell us they have a 20 year plan for GWS, which sounds very sensible, but they're behaving like it's a 3 year plan.

A follow-up question for the Melbournians amongst us ...

The Melbourne Storm are about 12 years ahead of where GWS is at (in terms of a new team trying to break into a rival code's heartland) The Storm were able to win Premierships quickly (illegally, but let's ignore that for the moment). Was that quick onfield success essential to get solid interest in the code in Melbourne?

I'm not. In regards to the draft I could not be more polar opposite. To me the draft is so pure. It represents hope for this club. It is the representation of positivity. Unadulturated.

I'm with you.

The whole trading and free agency thing seems a bit grubby to me, but the draft is different, it's a clean slate.

yes positivity is what the draft sells
Although am not a fan of all the post draft commentary and spin on draftees. "Athletic tall with good endurance"- which means - too skinny to hold a key position

or "promising inside mid with good decision making attributes" too slow to be anywhere except in a pack

My point is that until we start to see players in pre season mode, its hard to get excited.

Aaah footy how I miss thee. Debating the merits of where Mike Hussey should bat is not that interesting

You'll be waiting a while and probably disappointed at first.

I can't believe that we drafted Thomas and Pendlebury. We could have gotten Ellis and Sellar.

Who's Dangerfield? Have Adelaide just drafted that fat llud guy from Caddyshack?

Both Judkins and Rendell have regularly drafted well but against the grain, so you probably won't be hearing kudos for a couple of years

Looks like I'm on my own.:p

It just seems like all the technical behind the scenes stuff, like the editing of a film or something. You need to do the editing for the film to happen, but I'm not interested in the editing, I'm interested in the final result. I mean, I'm excited about our draft prospects and Derek Hine is a genius, but it doesn't really affect me until they are actually out on the footy field. The fact that I don't have a clue who they are just makes it that much less interesting for me.

I can see why others enjoy it, but I'm just not bothered with it all. I've basically posted nothing footy related on here since Travis Cloke re-signed. Obviously I'll still welcome them with open arms and I like to have a chat with the new blokes when I can get down to training, but for now I'm not very interested. Don't let my feelings stop you from enjoying it though. Different strokes for different folks. What I'm really excited about is our chances in 2013!:):thumbsu:

Looking forward to it.

Nowe have 2 of the best 3 recruiters in the land working at the vlub, I'm pretty excited.

Rendell has a better strike rate with talls than Hine, so should help the architect nicely. Not that Hine has a bad record with talls, but Rendell - Tippett, Walker, Jacobs, Maric, McKernan, Jenkins, Talia, Bock, Davis, Griffin - woah!

Like the draft and will be glued to my radio given we have a first rounder for the first time since 2008 IIRC.

Without being rude keep an ear out for Danial Coghlan. He was asked down to Collingwood on Sunday for a day of testing. Topped the beep test and flew through the rest of the tests. Has to go to Port Adelaide for a two week trial at the start of November but Collingwood are hoping to secure him as a rookie at least.

Hmm not posting something slanderous re our club is a bit of turn up from you. I am tempted to PM admin to let them know that your account has been hacked. On a serious note though thank you for the info (even if I am a little wary of it).

No it would be nice to see him picked up. Great kid and a great sportsman. Represented Victoria in cricket at under 19's and has been opening the batting at Ringwood. Plus if he goes it will weaken Warburton FC. :thumbsu:
