Depends what the club offers. Gowers was given two years while Walsh etc the one. Cazzesman on TC said Wright was given a one year contract too btw.

Are you sure that Gowers was not re-signed for another year, as rookies can be/usually given the 1yr at the start?
Wright is about the only player in this trade period associated with a length of contract, far different to previous announcements of years gone.

#Updated according to this article:-

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2016-08-12/irishmans-heart-at-ikon-park

Key defender Sam Rowe was also due to come of contract but it's understood he has satisfied a trigger clause that will see him play on at Ikon Park in 2017.

Blaine Boekhorst is the only one of Carlton's 2014 national draft picks to be signed beyond 2016 having extended his initial two-year deal to the end of 2017 earlier this season.

Would be some kind of achievement given his false start with Syd, four years out of the AFL, a late start at Carlton and then his health issues.

At one stage, I thought he'd never debut for us. To play 100 games (or even the 70 he has right now) would be incredible.

6. Kade Simpson (Veteran from 2015) - STAYS
7. Dylan Buckley - COIN TOSS. Probably stays
16. Dillon Viojo-Rainbow - Yet to debut. 2 years in the system, is he not cut for it?
21. Ciaran Sheehan (Category A International Rookie) - Stays surely
22.
Jason Tutt - Gone
24. Mark Whiley - I personally don't think he's cut for senior level... but could see him be extended.
25. Clem Smith - Gone
26. Jayden Foster - Gone
27. Dennis Armfield - Extends 1 year
29. Billy Gowers (Rookie) ?
31.
Matthew Dick ? - Gone, sadly. I was a fan.
32.
Nick Graham - Interesting one. Trade? I personally don't think he's capable but that's my opinion. Could get extended.
33. Andrejs Everitt (1yr option activated). Does that mean he's guaranteed in 2017?
41. Levi Casboult - The great conundrum. I think he has to be kept.
42. Zac Tuohy - Keep.
36. Cameron Wood (2nd year Rookie) - Gone
46. Matthew Wright - Lock to keep, surely.

So I'm probably overzealous but that says 4 from the main list gone guaranteed from those not contracted.

I would like it if clubs just let us know officially the lengths of each player's contract. Don't care about how much they get paid. JUST how long the contracts run for.

Everitt is in his activated year, so to stay he has to sign a new one, but it is preferred that he is traded for picks/players.
I'd be giving Armfield one years contracts from now on. I'm pretty sure he will accept them.

Casboult does not need to be kept. He is trade bait as well.
Interesting to see if Graham has any currency. If not, I would sign him on for another 1-2 years as he is a serviceable player going forward.
Wright needs to be given a 2-3 year deal

Sheehan is the player I question the most. He hasn't done much to stay on the list, but there are plenty that look to walk out the door before him.
Agree with the rest.

Sammy Rowe has activated his clause and will continue on through to 2017. Well done Sammy, had a great year and well deserved. Has been nothing but a rock this year.

Could almost finish top 5 in our B&F this year.

Geez - Our list is worse shape than I thought. Looking at the Mick Malthouse era, I'd have to say fail in every aspect. Not only did he fail us as a coach, but the recruitment from that era has realy cost us long term. Some of those contracts are just ridiculous. The club seem to have given Malthouse free reign and it's damaged us badly. Really makes me appreciate SOS returning to the fold and his efforts last year. Hopefully he has some Master Strokes up his sleeve this year cos we're gonna need them.
