La Dis gets a free pass and sometimes he takes it too far... But you can guarantee when Bailey Smith is burning his teammates kicking balls 19m over their heads that he'll be there with a thread reminding the world that his haircuts shit.

Thats why we love him

They've generally been pretty good when I've seen them, early days.
Have they, though? Their second half performances haven't been great this year:

R1: 9.8 (62) to 7.3 (45)
R2: 4.2 (26) to 6.9 (45)
R3: 2.3 (15) to 7.2 (44)

R4: 3.9 (27) to 6.7 (43)
R5: 2.4 (16) to 9.8 (62)
R6: 5.3 (33) to 7.7 (49)

This appears to be a team that only knows how to play one or two quarters of good footy and they almost always turn off in the second half. Good teams don't do that. Their single good performance in the second half came in round 1 when they kicked seven consecutive goals in the fourth quarter to snatch the win from Richmond but every other game this year they've fallen off in the second half.

It's a concerning trend but they've got North Melbourne next week so that will likely be a big win and the media will jump back on the Carlton bandwagon. I'm more interested in how they go in the following month against Adelaide, GWS, Sydney and Collingwood.

Haven't thought a lot about it but if Jack Newnes gets a game then you have a shit list.

If you match them at contested ball they have nothing else. Don't look fit enough as they fall in a heap in the 2nd half. Defence structure very wobbly. If their two talls aren't kicking goals, who else they got? I think their % is a good indicator as to where they are at. Improvement is there but they aren't troubling the better teams this year..

Voss should would out to be a good coach at Carlton. I reckon he is smart enough to have made clear to the Club that the medium to long game is required.

The list he inherited has some high quality talent but falls away pretty quickly. List management had been at near Dodoro level of fail until SOS moved on.

I think he will have seen 2022 as getting more wins, making the 8, instituting systems and non-negotiables as well as sorting out who can consistently contribute in the heat of battle.

He has always impressed me as a straight down the line person with ethics. I reckon during pre-season players were left in no doubt as to the expectations on the team and them as individuals. I also think Voss like Horse, Hardwick and a couple of other coaches despises the culture of playing for frees. He would for example put a talented kid like Weightman to task.

Season's end will see a modest clear out and effort to find new homes for those who are overpaid for what they deliver.

I would add he was unlucky that Jones did not want the jab. This has exposed Weitering who I believe misses the madcap Jones. Equally he has been lucky Cripps has returned to health and form

Going to preface by saying I’ve seen maybe two games in total, but has anything changed from last year under David Teague?

Still seem unable to prevent teams getting run-ons against them, can’t defend transition and seem to be treading water through another season.

Granted they have traded in a number of players and gone through a rebuild I thought they’d be far advanced than what they’re showing.

Thoughts?

As Bunk Moreland posted, changes take time. One pre season is not going to fix a huge weakness like that and change the mindsets of players who have been used to playing for themselves (for obvious self preservation reasons).

Also pretty poor to start a thread potting a team you just beat.

You don't think the original thread regarding us was distasteful, premature and arrogant?

I kind of agree. Looks a bit tasteless whenever a supporter of a winning team opens a thread about the side they just beat. Freo are looking ok. Had softy wins last two weeks against arguably the two lowest teams in regards to pressure. Saints brought pressure and Freo crumbled. Dees, Lions, Cats and Swans are still the big dogs with Freo and Saints improving. Carlton with some work to do but a very soft draw will see them make the 8. Their % is a true indicator on how they are going..

I don't know. I am in this thread talking about this thread.
Well go and check the post date of the thread "Fremantle under Longmuir" and tell me whether you think it may have been a tad premature and unnecessary.

I don't know. I am in this thread talking about this thread.

Irrespective of the motivations of OP, I think it is good to have a thread focussing on what Vossy is doing.

Im not sure why a Freo supporter is opening this thread. We lost by 5 goals to you on your home deck with our ruckman and best forward injured in the first 10 minutes. This after our 2nd ruck was ruled out the day before the game. Even before those injuries it was a 50/50 game for us at best. Well done on the win but not sure the carry on is justified.

As far as Voss goes definately some things to work on. Stoppage setup is awesome. Transition game and outside run very questionable. Continual bombing of the ball inside 50 and out of defence super frustrating.

I think list wise we have some gaps. Our outside mids are poor as are our small forwards and we have to many attacking half backs. That said, we have gun mids and KPP which draft and salary wise are harder to get. I think we can address those gaps in the next 1-2 preseasons without breaking the bank.

Prior to round one most people had carlton finishing 6-10, some even lower. I think Voss has shown that he can at least get Carlton finishing at the upper end of that range in his first season the helm.

Whilst, the last few weeks have been disappointing you' d Have to give him a tick based on that.

I mean we are talking about a side that has not done anything meaningful for years.

The fade-outs aren’t great sure. But they have still played some decent footy and the midfield is functioning much better than under Teague.

This team is far from the finished product and any rational Carlton supporter knew that at the start of the season. Still lacking some depth and a couple of players. The talk of top four, winning multiple finals etc was a little premature. That’s not to say it can’t happen, but Carlton’s realistically should be looking to make the finals. Baby steps first.

How many sides make the 8 for the first time and are immediately a premiership contender?

Percentage is going to cost them when it gets closer to finals. The percentage lost from the fadeouts vs Dogs Hawks and Port could be the difference in making or missing finals. Pittonet is also one of their most important players so he's a massive loss

Bewildered at how big this game was for Freo supporters...
Obsessed much? It was just another round 6 game for Carlton supporters...

We've had more Carlton supporters on our board being arrogant f-wits this week than we've had opposition supporters in any other week this year, including the derby.

Mind you, you're probably right in saying that's just standard for Carlton supporters.

I think Carlton will be there come finals. But I don't think they'll go all the way unless the planets align. Right now it's Melbourne, saints and freo that are the top teams.
