No you don't. He didn't have a great game but he's not being kicked out for Ceglar
I don’t think it’s that clear cut. Stanley has been great this year but that was terrible. Worst game. You know ceglar is more than serviceable. Stanley spent the last 15mins of the game on the pine. Might be a sign. Who knows?

Collingwood threw everything at us and we persevered
We played well, they played well
Character building stuff
Not sure Miers plays the prelim

Back home after a celebratory evening. As others have said, we played quite poorly but found a way to get over the line. You just felt that if the game eventually opened up (which it really only did fleetingly) it would favour us.

Selwood and Atkins were immense in the last quarter. Rapt for Rohan that he finally threw the finals monkey off his back. Hopefully that augers well for a strong last 2 finals games. Stewart and Z.Guthrie were terrific all game. Unfortunately the occasion got to Henry - hopefully he’ll be better for the experience.

I thought Duncan and C.Guthrie were decent. As was Dangerfield. Weren’t fantastic but very serviceable. Blicavs had another finals ‘mare. It’s concerning, particularly after being an AA this year.

Stanley is an another ongoing finals concern. Do you take the punt on Ceglar or back him to be better for the experience?

Miers another who had little influence. Does Menegola come in for him?

Parfitt has to come in I think. We need more grunt in the middle.

So plenty to like but a few questions that need answers.

Early thoughts re changes for the Prelim without knowing our opponent would be -

Outs - Miers, Kolo

Ins - Parfitt, Menegola

But they lost. Why would you act like winners when you lost?

I think his point was more that we won rather than they lost it which is true he wants them to be optimistic.

Agree...maybe stanley wasnt 100 % fit who knows? Would be a huge call to bring ceglar in but its a close call.

Only two cats in top 12 players. Showing our midfield deficit, due to our draft selection rank.

Definitely thought pre-match we might get a bit beaten up around the midfield without Parfitt. To me, he has to go in.

DF had 22 disposals at 54% disposal efficiency, 9 turnovers! Would be less of a liability if he played forward but Rohan already plays that role.

Just come in, they stifled us, couldn't take a trick. Until the very last minutes.
They were great at just banging it out to where they knew they'd have a sweeper, (a la Richmond) and the ball bounces favoured them.
Was probably semi conscious from lack of breathing and knowing when the final siren would go- the third quarter went for something like 34 minutes. (reviews?) Bloody Rohan, who we love, for sentimental reasons had a fortune riding on him to kick the first goal, guess he made up for the miss.

Absolutely shattered and brain dead from that games frustrations, and being sent on a wild goose chase by staff to the accessible bay that saw us exhausted from being blocked pushing/walking before the start. After the game, the sad Magpie people in the wheelchair area came over to wish us and the Cats luck. On four separate occasions, it was Collingwood fans leaving the game that came to our assistance when they saw we were struggling.
Good luck to them, but glad they were tempting the odds to win another close one!

Thats great humanity to hear about

Those Daicos brothers were causing a lot of issues for us, would've thought Parfitt would've been an ideal player to nullify one of them.

I’m gonna have to watch it again as most of my following of the game was on Kayo on my phone with no sound but my general observations:

  • we take for granted just how good Stewart is. He was simply magnificent today in all areas.
  • De Koning was f***ing incredible.
  • Cameron is simply on another level to other key forwards for his overall impact. I can appreciate the scoreboard efforts of players like Lynch and Curnow and even a Ben Brown style one dimensional key forward but Cameron’s impact when he plays like he did today is closer to Franklin or finals Martin in terms of his general influence on those around him. Magnificent.
  • Rohan: not much more needs to be said
  • Selwood. Still the man I want around the ball when the going gets tough
  • Guthrie took a while to get going but he was good
  • Dangerfield. No one will remember it but in the first half when we were getting pumped and then suddenly we were leading just out from half time, he was second for touches, most of them contested, had 6 clearances and 4 tackles. He didn’t win us that game but he played a huge role in keeping us in it

I think we have to pick Parfitt we missed him. Not sure who goes out.

In general I just liked how much everyone busted themselves. Pretty much every player whether they had good or bad days, had a moment where sheer willpower got them to a contest. I saw Hawkins deep in the defensive 50 at one point, Blicavs who was having a quiet day run a mile to get a desperate spoil in, Kolodjashnij after he went off the first time spoil a two on one.

It wasn’t pretty and I’m sure neutral fans will look at it and go ‘they’re not that good’ but I think we proved a lot of people wrong as far as our ticker goes

Christ we make it hard for ourselves. Carried many passengers tonight, pies threw the kitchen sink at us and despite playing rather poorly most of the game we found a way.

One things for sure, we’ll need to go up another couple gears if we want that flag.

The cats fans on here not wanting to pickup JDG as a FA, jeepers, the bloke nearly won it for them. He is a big game player for sure in his peak. Can't see him leaving the Pies now.

Pretty sure hes got a contract on the table from the pies .

It wasn't pretty, but the intensity was there, and just grinded it out. Bank those ones all day every day after a Bye at the G, and in Finals.

Ceglar has played one good game mostly matched to Bailey Williams. He's not a serious option to bring in off what, 2 afl games? It can't happen.

I think you can only play as well as the opposition allows you
