Unfair to say that without truly knowing if they were being held back from training and performing because of these issues. It almost doesn't matter though. Even if they are fit it doesn't look like either are going to be selected in a hurry.

Probably. Varcoe should've been traded long ago. Loses value with every season. Should've gone instead of Chapman.

Given Stringer was picked I'd say Schroder would have come in if he was fit, so terrible timing for him.
Wouldn't surprise me if Brown retired after this season.

You will never hear the media talk about our injury list like they do the Poo and Wees. ******s
Why would he retire ?
He'd probably want a trade.
As for this current injury it sounds very minor and I'm guessing they've decided to do it now as there's no VFL next week,so it gives him 2 weeks recovery.
Well it raises yet another perplexing issue - if his cards were stamped why would the club bother with surgery? They'd just leave it to the end of the year then it's someone else's problem.
Who knows.
It would disappoint me if that was ever the club's attitude.
In any event, even if his "cards are stamped" that can only be a provisional decision at this stage.
What if Walker, Kersten, Vardy have setbacks?
Maybe, but I'm not sure they can afford to lose either. Schroder is our next best midfielder comfortably (and should have been playing now), and Brown is our next best key forward. Plus a tall option in defence as well. The stocks are scarily thing after him and Walker for guys who are ready for senior footy right now.
Wouldn't surprise me if Brown retired after this season.
I'd be amazed.
Me too.I'd be amazed.
Hurts both of these guys because if they arent playing seniors in the latter half of the year they wont get new contracts
A back-up key defender still has to emerge, before we should be too quick to get rid of Brown, in my opinion, especially when you consider the coverage that he can provide for the team in other areas. Hamling has shown a bit of promise this year, but the fact is he's older now than Brown was when he made his debut and he really needs to start being a realistic option for the senior team. Walker is probably on level pegging with Brown as far as preferred options as the second tall forward go (though Walker does have the advantage of being promoted from the rookie list at the end of 2013), but he hasn't displayed the ability to go back like Brown has. Vardy and Kersten as the forward line of the future (through no fault of their own) have shown us nothing this year and Vardy is getting to the stage where you'd be making a huge risk to put all your eggs in that basket. Toohey and Kolodjashnij...who knows? What I do know is that if none of those players get a game in defence in the AFL side in 2014, with Enright, Taylor, Rivers, Mackie and Lonergan as staples in our back six, I'd be making an offer to Brown as a required player.
That's what scares me when people gleefully write Brown off and presume Vardy and Kersten are the solutions to all our woes. Have a look at our list - who our tall defenders and tall forwards are, and then look at either a) their age, or b) the amount of games they've played. It's really thin behind Hawkins up forward and Lonergan, Taylor and Rivers in defence.
Lonergan is 30, Rivers turns 30 as soon as the season finishes, and Taylor is almost 28. Mackie will be 30 before the season is over. At the other end McIntosh will turn 30 during the finals. We really need another Walker and another Brown - guys in their early 20s who have been at the club a few years, and have shown something at one end or another in the seniors (or in Brown's case both).
I agree with everything you have said.
I really think Hamling will make it, and it is too soon to know about JK and the rookies.
Luckily, this draft is chock full of tall talent (apparently).
We could also do a lot worse than plucking a 23-24 year old KPP or 2 from a state league as insurance.
Dean Towers and Tim Membrey are wasting away on Sydney's list.I agree with everything you have said.

I've been an advocate for Matt Sully for a long time now, for this reason. His kicking isn't that bad. Mature body. Could step in and play a role.I agree with everything you have said.
