Losing Stewart hurt our midfield rotations.

I see we are back to celebrating 15 touch midfielders again in Clark and Knevitt. Weird.

Close game - felt like we were thrashed for 3 quarters of it

  • Stengle's miss in the 1st term
  • Neale's dropped mark in the 3rd.
  • O'Connor having a shot instead of passing in the 3rd.
  • Clohesy's miss at 3/4 time.
  • Danger's miss in the last term.
  • O'Sullivan lowering his eyes instead of bombing it from 60 in the last quarter.

Make any two of those and we win.

It is something I don’t understand, how our players in the midfield just get nothing compared to our opponents. Yet we seem to score alright, we are a lower possession team but it’s really alarming like in the first half when we were down 80 odd possessions for the saints. It wasn’t all empty calories chip kicks and things like that, they were constantly moving the ball forward.

Umpire doesn't get sucked in by Jack Higgins and doesn't pay that holding free when he was the one doing the holding...

For those VFL regulars clohesy effort last night is not a shock - he’s a goal kicking version of Atkins.

IMO he got a higher ceiling than Atkins bc if what he does in front of goals - but also bc you will never die wondering what his effort level will be.

I’ve liked his work, much like I liked Neale from the start, and feel he will make the 25 a better unit.

Hope he gets a run again next week.

And he’s gonna be up and down too as he’s young and learning but his work made us better last night when he came in.

And so did Clark… he was really solid .

Go Catters

Generally speaking Humphries, Z.Guthrie always seem to be in the top echelon of our possessions. Are they just skipping over the midfield to get into the forward line because they press up the ground?

After such a poor first half, it was always unlikely the Cats would win this game. The Saints came out, switched on, and fired up, and our guys came out like they had just woken up from a nap. They seemed a bit stunned. How often have we seen this with the Cats getting smashed early in the game and then coming back and only losing by under ten points? Disappointing game after what they dished up last week. Jack Henry, Holmes, Atkins, Zuthrie, & Lawson did their best for us, but the rest of the team was very underwhelming.

I am not sure if it is the same with other teams, but with Geelong you can generally tell within the first minute whether the team is on or not!!!

It is uncanny how you can tell what the effort level of the team will be from a handful of opposition possessions.

Last night was one of those nights!

Oh hundred percent evil geelong showed up

Said we'd come back and just fall short, Stevie ****ing Wonder could have predicted it

Saints kicked 8 goals 1 point in general play. That’s remarkable and rare. At the ground it seemed every time they had a snap it went through and the stats show that to be the case.

Disappointing, no doubt, but sometimes good kicking is good footy and that’s where we lost the game.

How many of those 8 goals were from within 20m of goal? I'm guessing all of them.

Based on the first half....i felt that their high accuracy rate was because we were allowing them to get into the goal square, or from 30 or with no pressure on. The space that the Saints had at times was insane! We were not making them take tough shots from the boundary 45 out.

You don't know what irony means

Given you only show up to shit on us when we lose, and do your little 'I told you so' dance, your comment about 'you never have anything of value to contribute' could be less summed up as irony, and more summed up as: pot calling the kettle black.

Minor adjustment, but I reckon the club needs to consider the way they deploy Dangerfield in his Autumn Years.

Just watched Chris Scott's Rd 2 defeat presser and he stated that ''if we're getting the ball to him then we'll play him forward, if not then he'll come up the ground''.

I think it might be more beneficial to spread his midfield minutes by playing him in the initial 5 minutes of every quarter, then having him drift into the F50.
Not a bad idea. We had it a bit the opposite in 2022 where he would start on the bench and go on every quarter.

I think there's also an element where you if you throw the kids in there first they get ownership. Dad is still there if they end up needing him
