Personally, I think we should make just the two changes for the game against Collingwood:
IN: Rivers, McLean
OUT: Heffernan, Godfrey

Read and Bell would also be pushing for selection too, I just cant think of anyone else to come out and replace them.

Thoughts?

So you suggest we have Nicholson, Ferguson, Rivers, Bizzell AND Wheatley all in the one backline? No, I don't think so.

Rivers was silly enough to get suspended so he lost his spot, while the rest are playing extremely well. There isn't a spot for him.

McLean is a definate if fit with possibly Bell in as well, for the outs you suggested.

There won't be a suitable match-up for Nicholson so he should be dropped for team balance, not because of form. Rivers in.

McLean in for Godfrey.

no suitable matchup? he has to take tarrant

he will take tarrant in the goalsquare but fergy should watch him when he leads up the ground.

Rivers will take Travis Cloke....this is a definate matchup imo. would be silly to keep rivers out for a second week in a row and i doubt danners will. pies have a much better attack then the roos.

wheatley or bizzell will take caracella and whelan - didak

brown will probably push up into the middle.

bell and read probably dun have a spot atm, my changes are identical to Marns but ND aint exactly predictable with the changes.

wat did u guys think of heffs game on the weekend? godfreys 2?

13 and 12 possessions respectivly from limited game time. heff may get a second chance but i really hope it aint at the expense of rivers or mclean

rivers comin back is really a must i reckon

i mean wat happens if we dun and we pound em....he wont play next week then and it just keeps on going on and on.

Ferguson or even Bizzell will play on Tarrant IMO despite him carving him up last time. Nicholson will be too slow to keep up with Tarrant who will play up the ground while Rusling plays full forward. Nicho may take Rusling but again would struggle with pace.
Rivers and T.Cloke will be a good match up of two young guns.
Look forward to the match.

I really thought Mclean was going to rack up his first 30 possession game against the Kangas which would have been a great thing. I am still waiting for the day when he does do it. I dont think it will be that long! Fingers crossed he will play this week.

I was also hoping that Col Sylvia was going to follow up with another good performance, especially with the omission of his mate Brock I thought he would spend more time in the middle and he would play a corker. Unfortunately, not only did he play a bad game...he played an absolute shocking game and he made Godfrey and Heffernen look like the James Hird and Nathan Buckley's of the competition. I really want to see him hit his straps. Hopefully Daniher will give him game time this week! Thats all I ask.

wouldnt wanna see bizzell on tarrant

fergy on tarrant would be a good move but nicho will take him i garuntee it.

bizzell will have his work cut out to help out tarrants opponent as 3rd man up

The Melbourne Selection commitee have a huge headache on their hands atm!!! PLay rivers or not? Play a very tall backline or a balanced one? PLay bell or not? Read??????? OMG what r they gonna do! It doesn't matter cause we r gonna be the filth by 10 goals!

I can't see a spot for Rivers or Bell (concussed against Springvale) this week, but the first defender in the seniors who even thinks about shirking it will be back at Beach Rd before you can say "Bring back Rivvo".

Perhaps he could squeeze onto the bench or even replace Holland up forward?

Rigoni could come back in for Godders I guess, but there aren't too many obvious changes that I can see.

What about Brocky?

is mclean are certainty or are there doubts? im guessin he will go through some tests.

rivers must play ND cant not select him again

this is how i'd have the back 6

Whelan(Didak) Fergeson(Tarrant) Nicholson (C.Cloke/Rusling/Fraser)
Bizzell(Caracella) Rivers (T.Cloke) Wheatley (Whoever they through up there)

that leaves Nathan brown to push up 2 a wing. that means that by replacing heff and godders with mclean and rivers we dont loose a midfielder cos rivers goes down back pushin brown up 2 a wing.

though brown will place defensive so he can give us run off half back, i doubt he''d push forward much.

i guess in the biggest home and away game of the season we just have to play the best players. it will be good for guys like Rivers to be exposed to huge finals like crowds in preparation

heff and godders are and always have been B grade players so y select them over rivers i dunno.

also if mclean aint fit i'd like to see rigoni come in for godfrey or heff...probably godfrey as i'd like to give heff another go. i reckon rigonis experience would be good compared to a guy like Bell. also Read if fit would be another option

My opinion is Rivers in for Holland.
As good as Holland has been considering his ability, we need the flexibility if Nicholson or Ferguson do get beaten. I think Rivers, Ferguson, Johnson or even Bizzell can go forward as the third tall, in place of Holland.

Just quietly, I'd love to see Rivers go forward. Given the way he reads the play, I think it's not out of the question that he could develop into an excellent forward, perhaps similarly to the manner in which Neita went from the backline up forward.

Plus that gives you guys added flexibility, which can't hurt

We need him back this week. I think atm we need him as a defender, but in a few years time maybe we could give him a go up forward.
My matchups would be the same as melbournemartins

However Nicholson would get DESTROYED by Rusling on pace, but I would be happy to have him on C Cloke or Fraser. If Rusling goes down there maybe we could swap Nicholson to T Cloke (I know it's risky) and have Riv on Rusling. BTW this is ours and Collingwoods lineups this week according to afl.com-
MELBOURNE
B: Whelan, Nicholson, Brown
HB: Bizzell, Ferguson, Rivers
C: Moloney, Bruce, Wheatley
HF: Robertson, Miller, Green
F: Yze, Neitz, Davey
FOLL: White, Johnstone, McDonald
I/C (from): Sylvia, Johnson, McLean, Godfrey, Holland, Heffernan, Rigoni
IN: McLean, Rivers, Rigoni
OUT:

COLLINGWOOD
B: Swan, Prestigiacomo, Clement
HB: R.Shaw, Wakelin, Maxwell
C: Licuria, Burns, Morrison
HF: Didak, T.Cloke, Fraser
F: O’Bree, Tarrant, Caracella
FOLL: C.Cloke, Holland, Lockyer
I/C (from): Buckley, Lokan, Lonie, Rusling, Rowe, Woewodin, J.Cloke
IN: Buckley, Lokan, J.Cloke, Lonie
OUT: Egan (susp)

I'd doubt Buckley would play, but if he did I would still give him the same respect I would give to him if he is fully fit. Though I would say he'd be a late change. IMO we should keep Holland in to stretch Collingwood's defense, as Clement would either go to Miller or Robertson, and that would leave the other player to Maxwell, which IMO would be a matchup ND could exploit. Should be a fantastic game. I think we will win (Not by much) but our midfield will win us the game.

OUTS should be:

MELBOURNE
B: Whelan, Nicholson, Brown
HB: Bizzell, Ferguson, Rivers
C: Moloney, Bruce, Wheatley
HF: Robertson, Miller, Green
F: Yze, Neitz, Davey
FOLL: White, Johnstone, McDonald
I/C (from): Sylvia, Johnson, McLean, Godfrey, Holland, Heffernan, Rigoni
IN: McLean, Rivers, Rigoni
OUT: Johnson, Godfrey, Heffernan

not really bluemike, anyway dat dun mean much if he plays he will be in the guts from the opening bounce.

also marns, we need either jamar or johnson in. i dun wanna see holland or even worse...nicholson in the ruck

Oh, sorry, for some reason I thought Johnson was Chris Johnson. I take that back. Holland out instead of PJ.

Holland will definately play, been very, very good this season for us.

I'd say Godders will go for McLean, but can't see Rigoni getting a run. Rivers is an interesting one. They may play him and allow Wheatley to push up the ground a little, even Brown, but I still feel uneasy about playing so many talls in defence.

We shall find out Sunday I guess.

Nicholson's matchups will either be T Cloke who has superior mobility and will make Nicholson play too far from the goalsquare, or Rusling, who after just two games really only is a decoy forward who will lead wide to the pockets and keep the goal square open for Tarrant and Caracella.

I think big Al will spend a lot of time on the bench, and I hope Collingwood will be able to exploit this lack of depth in their interchanges. If they get an injury or a player out of form, it may leave them with only two useful players on the bench.
