Personally I'll be pleased if Luke Thompson gets a gig and I won't be surprised if he gets a crack at the Hoff, has the size and athleticism to do a reasonable job, let's not forget he did play a lot of his junior/Geelong Falcons footy on a wing so obviously has more pace than some give him credit for.

The basics of football talia struggles with no doubt; kicking and handballing, but he is definitely a better handballer than a kick:D

He is just a puncher of the football, like a presto or hudghton.

I would prefer taylor, thompson, mcpharlin, richards, jamison, hooker,

Im allowed to think he isn't good at anything besides punching the ball away from his opponent, it isn't a crime mate
You're allowed to think whatever you want, and everyone else is allowed to think you're an idiot for it.

what????? lynch to westhoff?????? wtf

Well right now, by that lineup, Brodie smith is playing CHB.

Now, regardless of the results, that is a rather interesting move.

That's one heavy forward line.
They have a big defence too. Hombsch, Trengrove, Carlisle and Jonas.

Happy to see LT in the squad, his SANFL form has been outstanding and deserving of a crack to save his career.

Maybe talia to schulz
Could lynch go to westhoff?
others have heckled the idea, I see some merit in it.

He has the tank to run with him better than any other tallish player we have, he's attacking the other way if Hoff decides to only play one way himself, and he did play mostly off half back for the Bays in the SANFL the last couple of seasons.

Not the worst option IMO.

LT to Westhoff in a bold move? More agility and speed than Otto but surrenders a few kg.

As I mentioned previously, playing Truck this week would be absolute stupidity so our selections have definitely improved.

I do not think that DMac will play. He is not a player that copes well with injury. I also agree that Hendo is not yet ready but Brad C and Lynchy had to come in.

The surprising pick was Porps. He looked totally off the pace in the first quarter last week but did work himself into the game. I am also disappointed that Matty Crouch will be having a week off. He must play against GWS.

I think our forward line has too many talls but we all know that there is a secret clause in JPod's contract. I think Jarryd Lyons and DMac will drop out of the 25 with either Martin or Porps as the sub but my problem is that I think too logically so this is very unlikely to happen.

Luke Thompson isn't the classiest player but unlike Talia, Otten, Rutten, and to a lesser extent Hartigan, he has pace and can play tall or small.

Otten has been poor with ball in hand and of course tackling but his one-on-one defensive work against talls has been very good this year. I'd give him first crack at Westhoff for sure, with Talia on Schulz.

Thompson could be there in case those 2 get injured during the game, but in the mean time can match one of the shorter targets. We've seen with Porps before that short forwards who can mark are best matched up by a taller player assuming they can match their pace. Come on down LT.

Unfortunately Hendo hasn't come up, so Reilly remains. He's a useless defender so must be used as our 7th defender/loose man. If he's our exit player (with help from Jaensch) I'd still like to see Smith in the midfield. I know LT is nothing like Smith with ball in hand but can match up defensively on similar players so the defensive match-ups won't suffer, it's just shuffling.

No way would i sacrifice Lynch to play on Westhoff.

Porps better not play unless it's a direct swap for Pods. Unfortunately his defensive efforts will be way worse than the taller Pods so i don't think I'd do it.

Outs will be Rutten, Mackay, Lyons (unfortunately)

If Mackay is out, Martin must stay.

Personally I'd drop Pods instead of Lyons, push Danger forward more.

Knew Pods wouldn't get dropped by his best mate Sando despite Lynch returning and a wet deck:rolleyes:.

A bench of Crouch, Laird, Kerridge and Lyons (will probably be Martin instead) would be fine by me though.

Unfortunately Hendo and Cameron aren't playing.

Port are an extremely hard running side.

Mackay is one of our few hard running players.

Martin hasn't got top end speed any more but he's not a slow player and will bust his gut running both ways. To his credit he's also getting some shots on goal and decent marks…not our worst. Like everyone, i don't rate him as best 22 but i have a feeling if he plays this week he will provide a valuable contribution that will surprise us.

With Thompson coming in there's still a chance Reilly could be dropped.

Still a chance re Pods as well, or do the dropped players always come from the named bench? I assume not.

Pods will play, I've never seen a player dropped from the starting 18.

If we have an advantage over Port it's our height in the forward line. Dropping Pods who has been good nullifies that advantage. Yes I know about the weather but perhaps the weathers not going too be bad enough that it's a wet slogfest.

I applaud bold decision making at the selection table if it pays off.....I don't think Lynch will be on Westhoff but if that turns out to be the case then at least they're trying something different. If we don't shake things up then we won't win.

It is going to be wet and they have mobility and speed to run the ball out at will. It's not bold, it's sheer madness. Sucks Cameron isn't up for this.

I forgot about Cameron...he'd be perfect against Port....we haven't had anyone with his agility against them in a showdown for many years

Bullshit. Atkins has done enough to be on the cusp of selection (hence emergency) and it isn't like we are some world beater side and what a 20 year old playing one game in the showdown is going to f his career? Christ almighty, 1 game minimum will do the world of good, it either shows Atkins what is needed or he shows he has truly got it (to the point he could be a star).

What downsides are there.... or are you happy "protecting" players and sticking with mediocrity?
iam happier whhen players can do an apprenticeship in the SANFL and learn their craft without the constant supporter expectations
