so far so good, Talia out managed , Jones out Dropped

Hartigan in to replace Talia, i'm sort of OK. Its Jones replacement that will be interesting.

stoked to hear that Sholl and Schoenberg are staying in.
the best thing I liked about Schoenberg’s game last week was the fact his first half was pretty ordinary/quiet.. but in his second half, when the team was struggling, he shined.

I can accept his quiet first half because debut, stomach full of butterflies etc etc..

so it was so good that he obviously took on the advice given to him at half time and went out and played some really promising footy in the second half especially when the team wasn’t..

people here go on about Atkins possibly being good trade bait on the basis of “he’s a really good player when he’s in a strong side thats playing well”.. well **** that, if that’s his best attribute, I will be glad to see him go.

I want less players like that and more players that play well and continue to play well even when the team is struggling. its those players that can lift a team and quickly turn things around.

If Jones doesn't need resting he should be playing. Can't imagine he needs resting. We'll see

I disagree. Look at the way he is playing, he is mentally cooked.

Even if he's physically capable, he needs a break.

I'm such a sap, I'm being dragged back into a degree of hopefulness.

Yup, a tinge of hopefulness came back to me last week.

Even with the shit result, that hopefulness stays providing Jones is the only one <22 yo who gets managed/omitted.

Well, yeah. We won't be a good side for a couple of years.

Still, you do need players who can do damage in the 12-22 positions in a good side, and Atkins can certainly do that. I do suspect we'll be lamenting losing Rory more than most, though, I don't expect he'll get anywhere near that point at Adelaide now.

Just wondering what you're expecting to gain from playing Jones?
He's shown no signs of development or improvement at all this year. He looks completely devoid of confidence. He doesn't seem to know how to get the ball anymore. They're playing him in a role that he's clearly either not suited to, or doesn't have the confidence to perform.
Pretty much every time he gets the ball he either has to rush a disposal, or he gets tackled. I can't remember him having a clean disposal in like 3 weeks.
It's not a 'just persist with him and he'll get there' situation, there's been no signs to suggest it's just a wait and see. He needs at least a few weeks back on the track/reserves where he can play against people of his ability, to try get some confidence back into him.
He also needs a full pre-season to try add some size to his frame and increase his engine. He's currently too small, so gets knocked off the ball way too easily, and he tires early every game.
To me, he's a 'try again next year' player.

Did you forget his kick into the centre to setup an attacking play after drawing a high free kick by hitting a contest hard? He’s still clean with the ball when he actually gets it, unfortunately he’s just not able to get the ball very often.

Jones dropped is absolutely the right call. He's on a hiding to nothing otherwise. Give him a break, tell him to concentrate on beating his opponent and hunting the ball. Needs to find some confidence.
Nicks said it fair to say that he has been overthinking structures recently and not focusing on hunting the ball, definitely something that can only be fixed by a mental refresh and not during games.

Tend to agree with putting him away now. After tomorrow there’s just 6 games to go. If we assume he has say 3 off, he loses capacity to get a block of games in.

I think I’d rather see them say you’re done for 2020, have a decent break, spend some time working through game vision, then hit a full PS.

Fact that I do remember this is the problem. I should be asking 'which time?'

I don't mind giving him the last two games. Enough time to have a reset, and potentially offers him to get something out of the 2nd half of this season and not ending it on what was a 2 disposal game where he looked mentally broken.

as a pies supporter I am pretty realistic. out game plan allows other teams to stay in the contest. we simply don’t score enough goals. and I think our list is very overrated and when you lose the howe de goey pendels & treloar we are exposed. Put it this way if you have a spare few dollars chuck it on the crows
You guys have a good defensive structure but your right in that you struggle to score which keeps any team in the game. De Geoy being out is a major factor for your lack of scoring. Also if a team can cut out Stephenson and Elliot it goes a long way to beating Collingwood. Pendles being out is also a major loss as he is so composed with ball in hand. While you guys should beat us fairly comfortably by 4 or 5 goals I wouldn't be surprised by an upset here. Wouldn't put any money on the crows though.

Fair call - could work either way though. He has 2 more poor games and that’s what he carries.

Translation: He's been overcoached.
You didn't need to be Einstein to see that....when the kid has his back to ruck contests looking at the oppo player something is seriously wrong, ffs he's a natural ball hunter that was able to win the pill in bunches as a junior, he should be concentrating on getting the pill , worry about the oppo player when and if they take possession.

True, but how much more damage does that do? Melbourne was rock bottom, that even a poor game could be an improvement.

I'm happy to gamble on a couple of games to eke something out and try to give a bit of confidence going into preseason three. After all, Jones isn't the first and won't be the last to have a rough second year on a list.

Regardless, I don't think it'll change what his off-season needs to look like. Hit the gym hard.

There's that mouse again! ;)

This is what I've been saying about let's back off and let them play their natural game for the rest of the year.

Nicks is saying he can't train his game plan properly due to Covid training restrictions. So if he hasn't been able to do it yet it's not going to happen.

So stop flogging a dead horse and reset during the off season.

Much rather lose the next 7 with some flair than 7 more of what we've seen and we might even snag a win which I think will do the boys more good than trying to master this game plan in-game for the remainder.

Brace yourselves, as bad as we have been, the Pies are going to unleash a host of outs for Tuesday's nights match. Prepared to be shocked.

I'd doubt it. They can get up to 5th with a good win and set themselves up for the run home
Will it matter?
1) the Crows won't beat whichever side Collingwood select
and
2) PA/WCE/Richmond with the Saints and Brisbane as dark horses are the only chances for the C-19 Flag.

GWS is a sneaky one as well. There is easily enough talent there that if they do get hot, they'll do a lot of damage.

The best way to find yourself in a position to apply tackling pressure is to be close to gaining possession yourself. To do that, you generally need to be hunting the ball yourself and just miss getting it.
