That concerns me because while Mackay does have some qualities he can offer as a suitable player replacement for a game here or there; Luke Brown is not one of those players.
I thought he was pretty clear why Mackay got the nod with the way the game was played in round 1 with the new rules? Not necessarily like for like.

McKay is the lightening rod for our ridiculous team selection culture that has resulted in where we are now, 9 players with less than 10 games experience is a direct result of playing Mackay (and others) over the last 3 years when getting games into a couple of our youngsters was the smarter option.

So when he is rushed back into the team in Round Two its not outrageous the alarm bells have been rung.

There’s not a single experienced player in the shed. It’s lazy to say we’re playing the kids, we’re actually playing all our available seniors in a rebuild year. If it’s Talia playing injured to beef up leadership, I can understand the argument being made. But Mackay experience comes without quality or leadership. What value experience in a rebuilding side of it’s not providing leadership to those around you. And we went ok without it last week. Brown and Kelly lasted how long? So we list their rotation value and their experience.

What confuses me the most about the pro-Mackay selectioners here is that which out of Kelly and Brown he is directly replacing?

Because I've never seen him play as a small lockdown defender, or the defensive role that Kelly plays.

Sure if out of last week's side Seedsman, Hamill, Sholl, are all in the rehab room throw him in, but there's no specific role for him should we keep the same structure.

Seems to me that we will be shifting the magnets to our own detriment to put him in.
McPherson replaces Brown. Murray replaces Kelly.

I feel like you just sometimes talk for absolutely no reason at all. Even an idiot can see that Mackay has some qualities that Brown possesses, one being of similar height and profile, and an ability to chase (albeit not stick tackles, though lets be honest, not one of Browns strong suits in recent years) Mackay has some qualities that are superior to Brown, and others where Brown is FAR superior.

You're starting to sound like you just want to contribute to the conversation, when in fact you don't have anything to contribute at all.
Plural? Can you please list a couple for me...

Mackay is going to play a blinder he will be cutting through the corridor with speed and precision because this is how he seals his spot in the side for the rest of the year.
He often has blistering second halves of games we've lost at half time

Looks like Jones is in Sydney so is he the medical sub?

What would be the point?

Would be terrible management of a player with well documented form issues. Let him find some form in the twos.

Our defense currently has the following players with the following games played.

Back Pocket: McPherson 10 games
Full Back: Butts 3 games
Back Pocket: Doedee 31 games (and coming off injury)
HBF: Hamill 9 games
CHB: Murray Debutant

I can see the logic of having 1 more guy with more then 50 games experience in the lineup!
Depends on what the experienced guy brings. In the case of DMac, not much.

Me too - Smithers and Sloane to HB thanks.

Sloane Murray McPherson
Doedee Butts Smith

Hamill to the wing!

Mackay brings in the experience of how to keep your list spot when you are an average player. Not the type of experience you want teaching young kids. Brodie Smith is the experience you want down back who has played 184games. It's also not how many games a player has played but what they are producing. McPherson plays like a 150 gamer so games played are irrelevant. Doedee likewise plays like an experienced player and should have played 80-90 games by now if not for injury and Pyke. If Leaver hadn't left would we even be seeing Doedee?

Mackay isn't the answer down back and isn't the answer anywhere in our rebuild imo. I have nothing against him personally but his time has passed. I would have moved one of our smalls who can defend better down back as we likely will need tackling pressure which Mackay is not known for. If the club drops Hamill (instead of Mackay) in the future when Brown returns that will be concerning.

I don't have any issue in young kids being dropped if their form isn't up to it but I want to see the same criteria applied to the experienced player.
