Lycett obviously celebrated a little too hard after the Port game. Hopefully this is a harsh reminder that he is nowhere near an AA ruckman

His timing today was shithouse. He was leaping far too early, and it allowed Gawn to just swat the ball away as Lycett was coming down. Incredibly frustrating.

Lycett has always done this against better ruckmen. I guess he thinks it’s his best chance of breaking even. It’s really weird.

I wonder why people want to drop Venables. He is offering speed, pressure and reasonable skills. He may be turning it over a bit but he's worth persisting with. He has talent written all over him.
He doesn't get it enough to be a viable midfielder and is behind 4 others as a small/mid-sized forward. I agree he's talented. But is he our best option right now? I reckon we need another I50 target as the priority. No one is writing Venables off.

Lycett/Vardy combo doesn't work, been obvious for weeks. Fair enough Vardy playing as a tall fwd while JK is out, but as soon as JK is back he has to go. I'd probably even prefer Schoey back in to defence, and Barrass fwd if JK isn't ready.

Need to try Lycett on his own and get creative for the 15-20% of gametime he needs a rest. Melbourne were strolling it out of the middle anytime Vardy rucked against Gawn anyway, might as well have an extra mid in there.

The problem with that is what do we do for a ruck next season, Vardy & McInnes isn't exactly going to strike fear into opposition ruckman's hearts

They've put all their eggs into Lycett but he hasn't lived up to the hype. Callum Sinclair was always the better ruck and Sydney knew it. Lycett will get another contract offered as that is just good list management, but I don't like it. I'm glad they haven't bowed down to Lycett's demands and today and the upcoming finals will show why he shouldn't be paid much more than a role player is.

Liam Ryan doesn't deserve to hold his spot. Sheed is defensive liability and whilst better today there are still too many poor decisions.

There are other non-contributors that should be dropped before a star player in the making. Achee is exhibit number one - a mature player who can't impact.

Ah Chee was good against Port. You can't talk about a "star player in the making". Pick the team based on what they're doing now.

I'm sorry but that side today was pretty close to our best 22 for the rest of this year. Add JK, maybe Waterman. We don't have any big moves to make in the next month.

Haha yeah because half the voters go straight to the afl app and go Masten 27 touches and 1 goal, give him some votes, we will never win a premiership with a spud like masten in the team
hungrytiger is that you?

Assuming JK isn't playing:

OUT: Venables/Ryan
IN: O. Allen

If both JK and JD not playing:

OUT: Venables/Ryan, Darling
IN: O. Allen, Waterman/M. Allen

Waterman kicked three in the WAFL, but he didn't really play that well so Oscar Allen in before him. If it is going to be wet maybe go with Matt Allen instead of Waterman. Cripps, Rioli and Ryan is enough small forwards.

Couple of other observations. I want to see Duggo back in form. Yes, he had 24 touches but he's been a bit scrappy and has been missing hand ball targets by some distance and bombing his kicks. Not sure what was up with Shuey in the first 45 minutes or so but he was way off. Ditto Yeo. We like Jetta taking the game on and using his foot skills but a couple of his kicks early on were terrible. But to be fair, the whole team's kicking was awful early. And Jetta played real well last week IMO. Second game in a row Gov has been off. Not sure if he has been unwell? Redden got better as the game went on but I thought he wasn't very good in the first half. Thought Hurn had a down game. Generally a few blokes looked a bit tired and fumbly. Not surprising given the last fortnight with Gaff and the dramatic win against Port in very cold conditions. Likely a few sore boys. Ryan looked a bit sore to me today - remember he copped that pretty big knock the hip area last week. Not sure if this is the reason he was so but he did have a very quiet game. Le Cras looked tired but has plenty of credits in the bank.

Need to structure up better next week.
JD out really hurt us, but he can't be there as the only target.
Need either JK (if fit, but likely not) or JW in
Huge question for the medicos - if they rush JK, is the shin vulnerable, especially if wet?

Those in the gun:
Ahchee got 15 touches, 3 marks, 4 tackles, 1.0
Mark LeCras - 11 touches, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 1.0
Liam Ryan - 8 touches, 0 marks, 1 tackle, 1.0
Dan Venables - 10 touches, 3 tackles, 5 marks, 1.0
Nathan Vardy - 8 touches, 5 marks, 14 ho, 2 tackles, 1.1

out: Liam Ryan

In: Jake Waterman / Oscar Allen / maybe JK if pushing for selection

I think Jake Waterman and JD in the forward line would work well together, and provide defensive pressure

In: JK or Waterman
Out: Venables

That doesn’t even make sense. Completely different players.

Vardy out
JK in.

We can no longer have this vardy-lycett thing. Neither offer ANYTHING up forward.

I’d rather push for ah Chee and darling give lycett a chopout. It’s clear we don’t win in the ruck so I wouldn’t bother playing vardy.

I can see why people want venables out but he works well with the forwards without getting it himself. I’m sure he would like it more and maybe MC think he just needs games.

Cannot believe people are calling for Sheed to be dropped...

I love Venners and think he'll be a star but think Waterman needs to come back in as JK clearly won't play. Ah Chee to play Venners role.

Wouldn't mind Parto getting a game!!!

FB - Hurn, Barrass, Cole
HB - Sheppard, McGovern, Jetta
C - Masten, Redden, Cripps
HF - Rioli, Darling, Waterman
FF - LeCras, Kennedy, Ryan

R- Lycett, Shuey, Yeo

I - Duggan, Ah Chee, Venables/Sheed, Hutchings

E - Venables/Sheed, Vardy, O.Allen, Ainsworth

I think that's our best 22 come finals. Ah Chee to chop out in the ruck which kicks Vardy out and brings Kennedy in. Waterman comes in for Sheed as he plays best as our third tall - link up player.

I think it'd be too harsh to drop Sheed after today though. Venables actually did okay today from my perspective and it's obvious the MC rate him. Still him/Sheed/Hutch/AhChee need to fight for those final spots.

Also wow at the Masten hatred, surely a piss take.

Vardy is panels better than Lycett, Lycett was a joke today.

Masten was very good today. Some people have no idea.
