Milera is clearly one of our best distributers with ball in hand. Mostly good last year after the melts wanted him gone.
After 3 games ( he missed round 2) he was averaging 14 disposals pg - after 7 games it moved to 15

It was after that he started to be more effective - this was related to Smith moving to a wing

From memory Wayne was very fumbly and his disposals were hit and miss

I watched the game last night and thought the Lions were doing a similar thing to us in the middle. They were often winning the initial clearance, but then losing possession.

If we can’t get Dawson back into form, hitting targets, hurting in the middle … if we don’t use Peds and Soligo and Rachele and Rankine to shake up the midfield … then I can see us winning the clearances and still getting done easily.

If we don’t at least start trying to hit the leading forwards … our scoring will continue to be abysmal, our scoreboard pressure non existent, our hopes of growing into a dangerous team dashed again. Tex / Fog / Pedlar / Rankine / Rachele are no good in a pack marking situation … but a fast moving open space forward line with decent supply, that’s these guys Bread and butter.

I again am looking at our defenders - Max, Wayne, Brodie, Josh and Mitch are all naturally attacking players. I’d better see that shine through, not them swallowing down their instincts and embracing the fear of mistakes!!

Playing Laird and Crouch together is stupidity. Neither has any sense of when to get on bike and become a moving option that helps get the ball out of a stoppage in a dangerous manner. They're basically bystanders watching the other who has the ball and if they are used, it's a useless short handball receive whilst being stationary that requires a hack kick.

Does very little damage, often trying to hit up short targets leading at him with an opponent on their hammer. Too many times the spoil is longer than the kick. But he's not the main problem at the moment, but he is unfortunately pure meh.

Who Hawthorn traded out for Cooper Stephens (yet to play for Hawthorn) and picks 41 & 50 (neither used)

Because Hawthorn are idiots.

They are the same club that rated him as the worst player on the ground in round 1 and round 2. Despite getting Brownlow votes in both games.

Because Fremantle didnt rate McLeod and traded him to us for Chris Groom doesn't mean nobody rates Andrew McLeod.

Are they idiots though?

Yes they got nothing for him except removing his salary, but Mitchell is turning 31 this year and Hawthorn aren't close to finishing their rebuild.

He clearly wasn't going to be part of their next flag team so why bother keeping and playing him in a rebuild?

Mitchell won a Brownlow at Hawthorn

McLeod didn’t play a game for Freo

The 2 are in now way comparable.

They obviously rated him poorly (based on his admission) and yet still played him 21 of a possible 22 games in a season they had no chance of making the finals and then gave him away from nothing at the end of the season.

And what does that have to do with "Nobody" rating Mitchell. Hawthorn gave him away for nothing - not because nobody rated him, but because they didnt rate him.

Collingwood obviously rated him pretty highly considering he played all 26 games for the premiership team and they voted him their 4th best player in 2023....

That doesn't sound unusual when Worpel and Wingard missed big chunks of the season

They were already giving plenty of games to Day, Newcombe, Macdonald, Ward, Nash etc. so when a couple of midfielders go down yeah it makes sense they would have to play him for most of the year

They obviously spent the year giving games to young players and identifying who to prioritize in the rebuild and with a couple of first round draft picks to add the following season they ditched Mitchell and O'Meara for nothing
