ADELAIDE

Adelaide will be without the midfield drive of David Mackay and Luke Pedlar for its game against Sturt at Unley Oval.

Veteran Mackay has been called up for AFL duty along with defender Nick Murray while solid onballer Luke Pedlar is out with injury.

Adelaide University signing Mitch Marini has been recalled to the interchange bench after featuring in the opening two rounds.

The Crows are still to include their AFL emergencies in their SANFL squad.

League

F: Newchurch, Davis, J. Mathews

HF: J. Cook, Salt, Clarke

C: Marshman, Jackson, B. Cook

HB: McAsey, Borlace, Wright

B: Latchford, Merrett, L. Mathews

R: Strachan, Boyle, O’Connor

INT: Marini plus AFL Emergencies to be added

IN: Marini

OUT: Mackay (AFL), Murray (AFL), Pedlar (injured), Baccanello (thigh)

Probably the only spot he could play TBH. We are very light on for small defenders and Brown is not in good form.

I wonder if Latchford might be a midseason draft option.

We're worse off having Mackay there then not filling the small defender role. Its equally ineffectual but at least we don't waste one our 22 spots on a player to look like they're trying to fill it.

I agree, but that's how bad Brown has gone.

I mean, at least it keeps our team balance in check?

KPD: Butts
KPD: Murray
3rd tall: Doedee
Lockdown small: McPherson
Rebounder: Smith
Rebounder: Mackay
Hybrid: Kelly

You were also confident not all of Fog/Thilthorpe/Himm would be selected last week

Now I’m not saying that was the right decision, but bringing in Worrell/McAsey is by no means out of the question like you say
McAsey named in the SANFL squad, not Murray.

I don't know if purposely going a man down just so you can say "well on paper, we kept our structure" is a viable strategy. At least you could argue it's a touch more subtle way of tanking compared to selecting an injured medical sub.

I'd be willing to argue it's a lot more incompetent too (outside of our media handling, that's the real **** up). At least with that, there was a reward if it worked. There are no positives here.

Last time Kelly and Brown were injured we brought in Murray and Mackay as well if I recall.

Wouldn't surprise me if the same happened this week.

Would be the wrong call of course. We could easily being in Worrell. But it is what it is.
I wonder if this is the final sign that we don't see Worrell as an AFL KPD ??

I mean I don't mind if Murray plays, he was incredibly unlucky to be dropped.

He's not. He could play Mackay's role
The Brown small defender role ?? Nah he couldn't.

Look, I want him in the side, and I don't want Mackay in it.

Mackay isn't a small defender. Worrell could do everything Mackay could and more

Well if he's not a KPD, why can't he replace Brown? It's not like Brown has been known for his run and carry.

See you and I both want to believe that, but it's just not correct.

Its also likely for a week, I'm not keen to bring Worrell in for a week then drop him back.

I’m not going to be so one-eyed against Mackay’s abilities to say that selecting him is putting us a ‘man down’. He’s likely going to play better than, say, a McPherson has been. The reason he shouldn’t be selected is that he’s our worst ‘experienced’ player, who shouldn’t be seeing any game time given our rebuild

In addition, given GWS’ abundance of talls, I don’t see the problem with us putting in Worrell instead of Mackay. Going taller doesn’t create a matchup problem for us this round, at least

What do we consider him then?

Couldn't get a look in when Kelly and Doedee were injured.

Maybe he needs to play as a half forward at SANFL level.

This is true.

It's more than that though. Brown appears to be an ongoing management thing so it's likely he's out for a week then back in. Id rather the kid get and stay in his spot.

Mackay in for 1 week and out the next is preferable

Well it's not correct in the sense that the club believes that Mackay is a small defender and will try and play him there. And that Worrell isn't a small defender and probably won't play him there.

But the reality is David has always been a poor defender. At best he is a half back or ideally just an outside midfielder. Positions that realistically Worrell could play

Mackay and Murray listed as Out (AFL) in the SANFL team. McAsey named, Pedlar out injured.

Worrell and Jones not named but also not listed as outs.
So going to be something like...

In: Berry, Worrell, Murray
Out: Rowe, Hamill (inj), Brown (inj), Lynch

B: Doedee, Butts, Kelly
HB: Smith, Murray, Worrell
C: Seedsman, Keays, Sholl
HF: McHenry, Himmelberg, Murphy
F: McAdam, Walker, Thilthorpe
R: O'Brien, Hately, Laird
I: McPherson, Fogarty, Schoenberg, Berry
Sub: Mackay
Emergency: Rowe, Jones, Lynch for lols...

Though have this feeling Mackay may be an in.
