Could have easily played Hately. We didn't. We chose to pick him on the back of limited form then later decided that limited form wasn't good enough
Don't see a problem.

Tried something for 3 weeks, didn't work so back you go. Yeah I'd have given him this week before Sloane returns but hey.

People when talking Worrell exactly which of Toby Greene, Brent Daniels or Ian Hill would you suggest he has the tools to handle?

You would be setting him up for failure if you think he could do the job on any one of them. Brent Daniels is almost as big a threat to us as Toby Greene

He doesnt really play as a KPD though does he? More intercepting and rebounding. I think its likely Kelly that he needs to replace. Dudes not going anywhere unless ... you know. Touch wood.
Fine... he's battling with Kelly & Doedee. Kelly's form has been mostly excellent this year, and Doedee is our Captain-in-waiting. Opportunities have opened up elsewhere around the ground, but both players in his position are injury free and performing well.

Fine... he can replace Doedee or Kelly then, either way, he's not replacing Hamill or Brown.
Kelly replaces Brown.

Worrell replaces Kelly.

Easy.

There should be more emphasis on The trio of McAdam, Rowe and Murphy in how this forward set up is working out.
Alright to kick high score but pressure points are just that. Not enough creative output from the smaller brigade.

Harry Himmelberg.

Butts on Hogan, Murray on Finlayson, and Kelly or Doedee on Greene, with the other one to play as a semi-loose, intercept marking defender.

I don't think Fog's dropping is a form thing, just rectifying our balance which is completely out of whack with him in the side. He's not finding the ball in the midfield and he's surplus up forward with us having Walker, Himmelberg, Thilthorpe and McAdam there. Berry is a better fit because at worst he's shown he can provide defensive pressure in his forward minutes and can do the same in the midfield too.

Add in going with another tall defender to help free Doedee up and it's a better shaped team this week I think.

Which of those players can David Mackay handle?

I think you'll find the answer is the same as to your question

You could argue that 1-game player Murray replaced Hamill, with Mackay replacing the 172 game 28yo Brown. Does that make you feel better?
No, Murray is replacing Doedee so he doesn't have to play on the 2nd tall... but GWS have a 3rd tall... so it would have been easy to pick Worrell so Doedee could play on smaller players.

But with Brown out, they wanted Mackay's experience which was so crucial in in his last game...

Have you ever watched Brent Daniels closely or even Ian Hill, their smalls are a bigger danger to us than their talls for mine.

Whether we like it or not Fogarty hasn't produced at AFL level either as a forward or mid to demand selection.

Why not give him an extended run as a midfielfer, what have we got to lose - it is a rebuild year. Or we can drop him back to the SANFL, keep him on the list for another 3 years with a couple of games a year than trade him for pick 50. Job done AFC.

They need a replacement for Brown. Worrall is not it. Neither is Borlase or Macasey or Murray. Jones is still being trialled as a back. There is literally no one else to replace him. This is why we kept Mackay on. We should be glad they had the presence of mind to keep him in reserve because we’d be f’ed otherwise.

I jolly well hope this is sarcasm.

So are you saying he can't find his own ball or that he requires silver service to succeed?

No, he's a leading Fwd Bick's. He's been played either deep behind a minefield of immobile bigmen who can't mark, yet who have had midfield airballs as delivery,or a minefield of overenthusiastic smalls who don't know their role and flood back into the space waving their arms like porkchops. whenever there is a stoppage @ 80m out.

When he's had space and Div1 ammos delivery he's produced. Problem is, as soon as we go all airball again and our shitty structures collapse, its his head to be found on the chopping block first.
If we are going to treat him as a tall marking forward, then give him the whole treatment and don't expect instant results because we have to remember young KPFs take time to develop.

It's form and balance IMO.

Having a team out of balance also has a negative effect on development. They're rectifying the issue albeit playing Mackay

Ronin O'Connor has played quite a bit of footy as a running back for Claremont and he is quite quick especially off the mark and has shown he can completely blanket players in that role....another that needs to be tried at the level sooner than later. And don't give me the "but he's 190cm argument either.
At least you've come up with a legitimate alternative. I always thought of him as a midfielder, but I haven't seen him play (other than the pre-season games this year, where the camera work was dodgy and the commentary worse). Do you think he's ready for AFL just yet? Was he a legitimate option for replacing Hamill/Brown this week, instead of Mackay?

Tex, Berg and RT didn't have too much trouble marking the ball last week.
