I think it is time to move on from Walker in the backline. Have never seen a more nervous player in my life. Every time he gets it, you feel a Cat 10 incoming. He has no awareness or game sense and panics constantly. I feel like if we made the finals, a repeat of that Collingwood game would be quite likely.

I would try him down at Peel in the forward line or wing. He still has his defensive elements, and is lightning quick, and a good size. Kicked a few goals in his last season of colts. Maybe his attributes could be used elsewhere and the shackles mentally can be released.

He is a good one on one defender and takes the game on, so there are sure to be a few mistakes. Those mistakes are usually at half back getting caught htb.

Yesterday though looked like at times he was driving a 2 stroke or a manual car and decided that 2nd gear was all he needed.

There was one clear example in the 3rd where he slowed down to slow motion to collect the ball, whilst a team mate was working hard to shepherd. It was like he decided he wanted to force a ball up. I don’t like his intent. He had a similar incident in IAS game where Hugh Davies hit him up with a switch and he dropped the mark (like Tommy Sheridan vs Rioli 2015). Instead of getting after the ball got off the ground gingerly and started limping around.

I’m not sure what his story is this year but he needs to toughen up and spend some tough love in the WAFL to clean up his decision making and intent. He wasn’t up for a fight yesterday at all.

Too me Erasmus is a must play.

But he won’t play and if by some stroke of luck he does he will be the sub and come on when the game is done.

Going into the game, we had Young and Fyfe out of the 22, but I don't think we really replaced them.

That meant our midfield was thin, then when you consider Serong played forward a lot it was very very thin.

We must balance the 22 better.

I imagine at least Walters and Bolton will be back next week, bring Chapman into the main squad, bring Simpson in too, Voss in for Reidy.
I'm not certain Bolton and Walters will play and it appears Simpson has an ankle injury from the Peel scratchie. Do we throw Dudley in? We would have no-one else to get the crumbs in our forward line.

I have my suspicions that when playing at Optus we will find our targets up field in more space and he, and the rest of the defenders, will kick long to them instead of switching across the narrow ground.

I’ve seen enough from Walker to know that he definitely has it in him. Just needs a massive kick up the ass because he’s been so lazy of late. Needs to spend a few at WAFL to get a wake up call

Exactly 100% agree. Seems more concerned about protecting himself from injury at the moment but forgot that on Sat there were four points on the line. At least that is what it looked like. That and the cat 10 brain fade backline switch showed that he wasn’t switched on.

The backline is very soft and too many similar players.
You can afford one or two playmakers, but you need enforcers or elite pressure
and tacklers who can sweat on the opposition.

I feel like JL got all our players over thinking everything. I remember when Walks first started playing his instinct was just to run as soon as he got the ball. Not there anymore. Clark too. Only really Wagner that does it still and even with him it’s less and less.

He’s too focused on sticking to the plan 100% of the time and it feels like there’s no playing on instinct. If a player shows something early on it’s gone by his second or third year.

Not sure. Think he still does that. When it doesn't come off the play on errant passes by hand or run getting caught htb looks ugly

I know their has been plenty of comments about Erasmus , Brodie not showing enough.

But what is their mindset like and what are they being told after they watch us replace Young and Fyfe with Worner, Banfield.
So we can push O’Driscoll on ball and lose the impact he had as a wing and occasional midfield burst player.

Saw this last year with Darcy out. Just replace the missing player with the same type of player who is currently not playing or if you move someone from their current position it’s because you are not getting value out of them in their current position- which is usually a move during the match.
Agree. The wings got smashed. It was Sharp and?

Why not just throw Aish on that wing? He has done it before.

Worner sucks, even as a defender. He’s one dimensional. Would’ve thought by now Chapman was a winger or half back.

When the whole team gets smashed, forwards always look terrible. Judge them when the rest of the team is competitive.
Sigh, unfortunately true. If midfield gets smashed then backline and forward line look terrible.

Why is our first game away and our last game away this year? WCE get first home game and last home game? Thats pretty unfair really. What a joke.

That’s what always happens. If we start at home we finish at home. If we start away we finish away. Was supposed to be alternating years between us and WC but Covid ****ed it for a while.

I wondered why this was the case, and my theory is because we play a stoppage based game style as opposed to keeping the game in motion - like the Hawks, Geelong, Magpies, GWS etc... if you lose the contest against these teams you are basically ****ed.

So these teams just pressure us until we fumble and turnover, then they keep the ball in motion never letting the team regain control.
