Well, need to move on from that pretty quickly. Bad time to pick up a few injuries and will have some sore boys on a 6 day break, good news is Hawks will be on a 5 day break.

English will be a huge out if he can't get up and our options will be rucking Lobb (was he hurt at the end too?) and bringing in a KPD, or bringing in Emmett and going with Emmett and Croft in the ruck which is risky against Meek. Imagine even at the lower end will still be a couple weeks for Arty unfortunately I imagine.

If English is ok:

In - Richards, Hynes
Out - McNeil, Arty

If English is hurt:

In - Emmett or Buss, Richards, Hynes
Out - English, McNeil, Arty

Out: Croft, In: Emmett

Croft has given us near nothing across all games this season. You barely notice him expect the odd attempts at a hanger. Can't carry people. Give Emmett a shot as the third tall. Likely has better ruck craft than Croft too.

Out: McNeil, In: Richards

Enough said.

Davidson needs the heat on him.

Need Libba back as well.

We are screwed If we lose both Jones and English. And if Libba and Richards are unable to get up. Will end up carrying the same team almost with a replacement.

Ideal: Libba, Richards, Emmett IN, for McNeil, Davidson and Croft.

Lobb said he is fine, and said he can ruck if needed.

That’s what I’d expect if English misses

Not ideal obviously but not sure Smith or Emmett are ready for it

Could see Emmett replacing Croft as the designated second ruck in this scenario

In: Richards, Emmett
Out: McNeil, Croft

If Arthur is out, Hynes in.

If English is out, pray (probably keep Croft in and rely on Emmett in the ruck).

In: Emmett, Hynes, Carmichael, Gallagher, Gardner, W. Darcy, Smith, Coffield, L. Kennedy, Lewis, Cleary, Busslinger

Out: English, Bontempelli, Jones, M. Kennedy, Sanders, Dale, Freijah, Darcy, Budarick, Khamis, Dale, Naughton

Can’t afford any more injuries.

Out: Jones and likely English, McNeil
In: Buss, Emmett and Richards

Hopefully English is good to go but should he miss then Lobb spends more time in the ruck from defence with Emmett and Croft splitting the rest of the Ruck/Fwd minutes.

Other than McNeil out can't see how you can consider predicting a team with 4 injuries game day.

Will say this, Billings would be a handy in

That's fine, come back Tuesday then and predict away :D

Gives us something to ponder until then anyway...

Next 4 games: Hawks, Cats, Swans, Freo

Id be happy going 2-2 meaning a 6-2 start.

3 or 4 wins would be fully lid off territory.

0 or 1 wins would be disappointing after the 4-0 start

There’s certainly a decent risk of a let down period if English is out for an extended period with Libba & Richards a little unknown.

I think most supporters would be estatic with a 2-2 record against 4 genuine top 4 contenders.

This opening period to the draw has to be the most brutal set of games I’ve seen. 7 finalist contenders with 3 of the most difficult away games across the league.

Unfortunately McNeil is our most natural crumbing forward behind West and Jones and with Cody missing for so long.

He gets to the right spot frequently, but fails to execute.

This is why he keeps getting opportunities, but we need to move past him and essentially have (he is pure depth now).

I think English and Arty will miss - our coaching philosophy is very conservative when it comes to injury - a philosophy that I support.

Hopefully Ed was precautionary/conservative.

Out: English, Arty, McNeil
In: Emmett, Ed, Hynes

English’s health looms large not only for our selection but for how the Hawks potentially line up. They have been going with Meek/Reeves for a few weeks now.

The last few times they have completely owned us in the middle regardless, with Jai Newcombe running absolute riot.

If English is even a little doubt, than a week to be conservative is probably the prudent course.

Lobb rucking would be the play I reckon. JOD, Buku to Gunston, Chol seems ok (JOD a better match up for Gunston than Lobb).

An extra utility/running defender may be preferable against Hawks.

Funny how English is now regarded as indispensable. Until last year (or even this year) “Timid Tim” was a regular whipping boy.

Come back soon Timmy!

Think we can relax with Croft a bit. If he’s not being noticed much throughout the game it’s probably to do with the fact he’s played under 50% game time in every game including last night before English went down.

We’re really not playing with three talls, we’re playing two at any given time with Croft filling in for whoever is taking a break out of Naughton, Darcy and English. Chances are if a Lewis or Emmett comes in for him they’ll be given more or less the same role and be up for the same criticisms.
