I feel that makes us too tall down forward unless Oscar plays a genuine second ruck.

Probably. But it’s guaranteed to be a dry deck and our tall forwards are all pretty agile and adept at providing forward pressure.

And there’s no smaller forwards knocking down the door (so much so that Venables is still in there despite poor form) so the alternatives are to go in taller, or play a mid out of position.

Gotta question the dropping of Masten when Venables is continually gifted games.

And I don't even want Masten in the side. But he offers far more then DV.

When the teams come out in a couple of hours I suspect they’ll have Masten our injured, not dropped

Yeah I’d be surprised if the official designation for Masten was dropped, given he didn’t train early in the week. It’ll be an injury designation you’d suspect.

Edit: ffs Miguel Sanchez stop stealing my content before I think to post it.

Slow down. Who’s been stealing your thoughts?

Nic Naitanui is closing in on his return, but deciding whether to resurrect West Coast's two-ruck system is coach Adam Simpson's more pressing concern with Tom Hickey set to be available against former club St Kilda this Saturday night.

The 2012 all-Australian ruckman returned to main training for the first time since his second knee reconstruction today, but Hickey also got through full training after missing the reigning premiers' win over Gold Coast with a slight hamstring strain.

Hickey trained....

Nic Nat is gonna be injected sooner than what they are making out i believe...

The 2012 all-Australian ruckman returned to main training for the first time since his second knee reconstruction today, but Hickey also got through full training after missing the reigning premiers' win over Gold Coast with a slight hamstring strain.

Simpson is faced with the decision back in the Nathan Vardy and Hickey double act or run with one noted hitout exponent during Saturday night's clash with St Kilda.

"We've traditionally played the two rucks, knowing that one of those rucks needs to be a forward at stages," Simpson said today.

"The last couple of weeks we've tried a different look with Vardy and Hickey. When you look at the results, we look at more the clearances and how they all went rather than the individual ruck stats that they provide, both of those guys have held up their own.

"Oscar Allen has been second rucking. A young 20-year-old who has never rucked before – we're trying to get him through the season.

"Is that the best thing for him? They're the things we'll discuss."

Simpson doesn't expect Naitanui to be available until after the round 13 bye, setting up a potential comeback in a Thursday night blockbuster against Essendon at Optus Stadium.

"He looked good (today). Obviously he was in the opposition side when we do a little match sim, so he's disrupting a lot already, which is great for us," Simpson said.

"He's on track for hopefully just after the bye.

"He looks like the normal Nic at the moment. Early days. I'm sure he'll build his confidence in the next month or so.

"It doesn't feel a lot different because he's been on the track for so long. He's probably been training with us on and off for six weeks. This is just the next progression."

The Eagles haven't won centre clearances since the round three Grand Final rematch against Collingwood, and Naitanui could fire up their engine room.

"I'm sure the boys are looking forward to when he comes back, but there's still a good seven or eight games before that happens," Simpson said.

"We need to get going in other areas first."

I sure hope not. If he only just started training with the main group he would be grossly underdone and extremely unfit.

Oscar is pretty tall, but he's played on the wing a fair bit. He's super silky below the knee's and has a decent tank. He is tall, but he doesn't act like a tall.

Allen seemed to play in the backline a bit to start last week, and Darling and Kennedy also started the game on fire.

I noticed Allen playing more forward as the game went on and other forward line struggled.

I could be imaging things and missed Allen playing back in the second half as well, but for mine I did see a bit of a correlation in our form between halves.

Vale Chris Marsdens career :violin: :beercheers: :partypooper:

Just wearing my gumboots on here to wade through the Masten-melt mudslide!
Don't care who flies over, who plays, who doesn't, as long as they get something right,
and bring home the bacon......for that little running genius, that little running son of a gun,
that little falling tumbling body of ink, the Echidna, the amazing Masto-man!
(even when he's gone, he'll still be running across our posts and our discussions, running across
the night sky of our dreams, like a ghost rider!-the eternal running man)

Moving right along - hope to see some positive changes and some positive on-field action from
any newly introduced players? 4 points please!
