It's time to find out what he has got at this stage with Pratt & Gibson both missing. We need a talk backman and he is next in line you would think.
There are certainly more dangerous forward lines to have to try someone out in. Sydney are a great side but don't see their forward structure as their main strength

I hope not. One is a skinny onballer and the other is a small ruckman.

If Roos is smart he will load up his forward line with blokes that can mark and try to stretch us.

We are going to have a hard time matching up a forward line of Goodes (193 cm), O'loughlin (190 cm), O'Keefe (190 cm), Barlow (194 cm) and if he decides to bring in someone like Playfair (198 cm)

He also has Ted Richards (194 cm) up his sleeve to go forward.

Throw in Buchanon and Davis and we are certainly going to have our hands full.

If Spider returns our problems compound even further.

Playfair is a hack so I wouldnt be too worried if he is an inclusion.

Davis will not be at Sydney next year and will be lucky to play many more games for the rest of the year. One of the biggest wastes of talent ever.

Lets look at our forward line and see if Sydney has the options to cover us.

Thompson, Jones, Edwards, Thomas, Cambell, Grant, Harvey, Hale.

I look at the Swannies team and I scratch my head. How do they keep winning? Very even team and they are the best at playing for each other. We really need to watch that and work very hard to at least match their intensity. We do that we win.

Lets look at our forward line and see if Sydney has the options to cover us.

Thompson, Jones, Edwards, Thomas, Cambell, Grant, Harvey, Hale.

Thompson - probably Richards. He'd be our most improved player this year.

Jones / Edwards - Barry and Bolton.

Hale - LRT if Everitt comes back in. Otherwise I'm scratching my head a bit.

Harvey - if he plays in the midfield Jack will probably get him and so long as GAB hasn't demoralised him too much, should do a good job. He may find things less straightforward if Harvey plays in the forward line, but I'd expect him to mostly run around in the midfield line. I think he's too important to be stuck in a pocket, especially when you've got Campbell and Thomas to do that.

Thomas and Campbell probably worry me more than your talls in terms of match-ups. Bevan is one option, and Kennelly has the pace to go with anyone but isn't the closest checking player in the world.

That probably leaves odds and sods like Mattner and Smith to play on Grant, though clearly others can switch around given that you won't have all those 8 players in your forward line at any one time.

Sydney's defence is under-rated by many who look at it on paper and think it lacks height. Yet over the past five years, there would be no better performed defence in the league. Certainly some of this is due to the pressure applied by our defensively minded midfield but it has still held up under pressure except when the midfield completely goes to sleep.

And what it lacks in height, it more than makes up for in mobility. Barry, Bolton, Kennelly and Mattner are all very capable rebounders, and Teddy R is learning to play that way too. If you tall forward line doesn't mark the ball, they are going to have to make sure they have their chasing boots on.

Rawlings runs with Kirk
Watt on O'Loughlin
Spud/Petrie rotate on Goodes
Hansen to Barlow
Grant to go head to head with one of their rebounding defenders
Power to play a negating role on a rebounding defender
Thomas/Campbell given 50/50 defensive/offensive license on their rebounding defenders
Sinclair to get minding rather than rebounding job to offset loss of Gibson & Pratt
Lower to be trialled (again) on O'Keefe or any midsize forward
Hale stationed deep forward to pull some of their structure back
Edwards given wider roaming arc to demand he is matched up

Agree with everything except Lower to Okeefe, we dont need to kill the kid. I reckon we give Hansen (who should be in) to Okeefe and make him play 15 metres in front of him. So he can play to his strengths which apparently is what he wants and we will see his brilliance and courage which is why he was so highly regarded as a junior. I reckon we should do it this week. We need to see what hes got. I don't agree with Watt to Okeefe at all. We'll get slaughtered.

Sinclair for Brown is perfect.

Happy for either Hansen or Thompson to come into the backline.

I am starting to think it might be Hansen - Laidley spends a lot of time watching what Malthouse does, and I think the Nathan Brown experience might convince him to give Lachy a crack. Afterall, Brown and Hansen played junior footy in the same league, and it wasn't Brown consistently getting AA CHB and being the best defeneder ever in the under 18 comp.

Brown (and Thompson) do have a bulk advantage though.
